We are currently in an exciting process of renewal, actively determining how we can best serve the community, both at our facility and through our outreach programs while strengthening the long-term financial sustainability of our organization.The Controller serves as leader of the accounting team at PacSci, serving the organization by preparing accurate, timely financial information on a primarily retrospective basis. They ensure financial information is presented according to GAAP, and that the organization complies with federal, state and local regulatory requirements. This role manages a team that currently includes an accounting manager, senior accountant and two general accountants.An ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and be comfortable working as a ‘hands on’ controller, assisting with monthly close and more complex accounting challenges. They will be an approachable team player, willing and able to explain complex accounting and regulatory requirements to non-finance colleagues in an understandable way.A cover letter must be submitted with your application in order to be considered for this role. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.Develop, maintain and inspect internal controls and corporate financial policies.Ensure organization complies with federal, state and local regulations and filings.Efficiently manage cash; ensure timely collection of receivables and control disbursements.Manage the organization’s annual financial audit, single audit, 990 preparation and relationship with external auditors.Assist in building financial acumen among non-finance colleagues and trust in financial information.Assist the VP of Finance & Operations, CEO, and other leaders in monthly budget variance analysis and board reporting.Other duties as assignedPosition Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge of:Generally Accepted Accounting PrinciplesNot-for-Profit accountingFederal, state and local tax issuesAccounting systems administrationInternal control best practicesCash flow managementFamiliarity with restricted contributions, federal grant funding, single audits and 2 CFR 200Skills:Expert-level skill in Microsoft ExcelOrganize time, information and resources effectively to meet deadlines and respond to requests in a timely manner.Analysis, problem-solving and critical thinkingAbility to:Communicate clearly and effectivelyLeverage technology for added efficiency and insightLead process improvementsMaintain composure under pressureWork effectively in cross-functional teamsTake ownership over areas of responsibilityInnovate, tackle challengesQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.5 years of professional experience in an accounting environment.2 years of supervisory experience.Excellent understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.Service orientation and commitment to achieve customer & organizational goals.PreferredSome prior experience working in a nonprofit setting or auditing non-profit clients.Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter.Working knowledge of SQL, PowerPivot, PowerQuery, PowerBI, and other data retrieval/analysis tools.CPA, MBA or equivalent.COVID-19 ConsiderationsPacific Science Center mandates that all new hires and employees must have the COVID-19 vaccination.
