The AVP, P&C Pricing Actuary oversees Auto or Property Pricing for the USAA Property & Casualty (P&C) Division and provides guidance on critical pricing decisions to achieve a proper balance between financial and competitive goals. Responsible for the development of actuarial pricing processes and rating structures as well as financial risk assessment and mitigation critical to the achievement of P&C’s profit goals, as well as the viability of the association’s financial strength.
Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving processes and procedures to manage insurance pricing rate order calculations efficiently and effectively.
Participates in overall USAA strategic planning to ensure the goals within the Financial Strength and Product Development Key Result Areas are met.
Oversees the projection of property pricing financial results for USAA P&C Division in support of financial goals.
Oversees and coordinates state pricing decisions across the property pricing teams.
Serves as a key partner to drive collaboration between the catastrophe management and property pricing teams.
Directs both national and state property pricing indications, including trending, loss development, expense considerations, structures, etc.
Provides oversight in the monitoring and development of key rating structures and USAA P&C pricing processes to ensure competitive and equitable rates, while improving profitability.
Participates on special assignments which require advanced technical expertise, to include analysis of the relationship between special forms to be filed with states and USAA experience, special competitive situations, etc.
Represents USAA on various industry committees related to Auto or Property Pricing.
Participates in various USAA company committees to assure coordination of pricing policies and other enterprise objectives.
Builds and oversees a team of actuarial professionals through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
Bachelor’s Degree; OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a Degree.
10 years of progressive actuarial experience in the property and casualty insurance industry developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment required.
6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams required.
Credentialed Casualty Actuary; FCAS required.
Experience in predictive modeling, bridging pricing to analytics.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present business solutions in a clear and concise manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven experience leading multiple projects and meet tight deadlines with thoughtful planning and effective execution.
Proven experience partnering with state product managers on pricing strategies.
5 years of leading teams in an actuarial role in personal lines insurance
Experience leading teams through changes in processes, tools, techniques, and organization.
Demonstrated successes in product management and technology modernization initiatives.
Creative problem-solver in a highly regulated and consumer advocate environment.
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $ 216,750.00 - 390,150.00.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
