I. JOB SUMMARY
This job description reflects management's assignment of essential job responsibilities; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned. All the duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies, procedures and guidelines outlined in the Diocesan policy and procedures manuals.
The responsibilities of this position are to direct and coordinate the operations of the Division of Management Information Systems. This position entails total administrative, organizational and developmental decision-making for this department and its future direction. This position includes, but is not limited to the following areas:

II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Computer / Networking Systems:
  1. Administer the computer systems, networks, Internet communications, hardware and software, in the Chancery buildings.
  2. Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the system with decision-making authority to determine solutions.
  3. Supervise and coordinate the work of the systems technology consultants in maintaining, repairing and upgrading the computer systems.
  4. Research& evaluate existing & potential hardware and software needs along with new technology or upgrades.
  5. Make strategic decisions regarding present needs and future development of the computer systems.
  6. Responsible for the IT Office budget, its development, preparation and implementation.
  7. Authorize and implement purchases of computer hardware & software, as well as repairs or other costs to insure compatibility, effectiveness and cost maintenance.
  8. Develop policies and procedures where necessary regarding computer usage.
  9. Train and supervise computer support personnel.
  10. Provide consultation to individual departments regarding technology needs and training.
Information / Web Systems:
  1. Responsible for the creation, on-going development and maintenance of the Catholic Times and Education website.
  2. Promote and coordinate departmental involvement on the Catholic times and Education website and assist were necessary.
  3. Administer current shared databases utilized by Chancery departments: clergy personnel, parish personnel & leadership, parish statistics.
  4. Supervise all personnel maintaining website and shared databases. Research and assist the establishment of common formats for information management and accessibility within Chancery departments and eventually between Chancery offices and the parishes.
  5. Provide statistical and demographic data to departments regarding the U.S. Census.
  6. Develop policies and procedures where necessary regarding website and shared databases.
III. OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Complies with federal, state and local laws.
  2. Maintains a neat and safe work area.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.
IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Compliance with BCI&I background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program.

Education: A degree in a related field such as computer science, information technology, or information system management is required; certified as a MCSA and/or a MCSE is required.

Experience: A minimum of five to seven years prior management experience is required.

Job Related Skills:
  1. Extensive knowledge and experience of Diocesan computer and networking systems, software and hardware.
  2. Excellent administrative and management skills with experience working with non-profits and non-profit budgeting.
  3. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with ability to listen and assess diverse needs.
  4. Ability to prioritize issues and make necessary decisions, to work collectively and independently.
  5. Ability to translate technical data into useful information for non-technical personnel.
  6. Extensive knowledge and experience of Web creation and design.
  7. Ability to work with and supervise a variety of technical consultants.
  8. Ability to work well with management and staff.
  9. Extensive knowledge and experience of data collection, maintenance and presentation –personnel, demographic and statistical data.
  10. Clear understanding of and appreciation for the philosophy and objectives of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Columbus
Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.

Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, write short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate to customers, clients, and other employees of the Diocese.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Working Environment: The ability to maintain all information highly confidential.

V. PHYSICAL STRENGTH DEMANDS
The Physical Demands Strength Rating reflects the estimated overall strength requirement of the job. It represents the strength requirements, which are considered to be important for average, successful work performance.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time, but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
