Job Summary: The Software Architect helps define the strategic direction for software development at Overstock, enables software development teams to deliver business value in a timely, sustainable fashion, and collaborates with software development teams to translate business needs into technical solutions. Job Responsibilities: Collaborate with software development teams on technical planning, writing detailed design documents and creating technical diagrams to establish and communicate a shared technical vision Provide design and implementation guidance for software development teams Align solutions across software development teams toward a shared technical direction Identify and mitigate technical risks for software projects Define strategies and tactics for delivering high quality software in a timely, sustainable fashion Establish technologies and best practices for all aspects of software quality assurance, including test automation, canary deploys, etc. Evaluate system-level architectures and collaborate to make improvements Analyse the business impact of technical choices and assess tradeoffs Establish and document non-functional requirements for technical solutions and identify enabling technologies for them Define and document standards and recommendations for software development teams Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and propose changes to the existing architecture Collaborate with Software Development management to create organization structures that promote the desired software architecture Evaluate and select third-party technology partners When requested, conduct an architecture review for software development teams Define technology infrastructure in collaboration with the rest of the technology organization Design and implement improvements to make infrastructure technologies easier to use for software development teams Design and implement proofs-of-concept for new technologies to evaluate how they fit into our ecosystem Work with software development teams to explore improvements in techniques, patterns, and technologies used in application development Provide mentorship to senior and junior team members, increasing their awareness of code quality, performance, algorithm development, deployment methodologies/operations Create and deliver training on techniques, patterns, and technologies used in application development Promote a positive company image through participation in public presentations, writing, blogging, standards, consortiums, open source projects, mailing lists, industry collaborations, hiring, etc. Job Requirements & Skills: 5-7 years of practical experience in Software Engineering Experience building high performance, scalable web applications Excellent communication skills, including organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication Agile development experience, preferably Scrum Experience with source code management, preferably git Deep understanding of non-functional requirements (including security, regulatory compliance, reliability, scalability, etc.), how to define them, measure them, and deliver upon them Deep understanding of the entire software development lifecycle Ability to influence people without having authority Ability to work independently with little oversight Risk assessment and mitigation Ability to make tradeoffs for cost, scope/effort, risk, and quality What you will get in return A competitive salary will be offered commensurate with experience.
