JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and in accordance with agency policies and procedures, the Senior Accountant is responsible for insuring that financial transactions are recorded accurately, common agency costs are allocated appropriately, cash receipts are properly recorded, monitoring various program statistics, assisting with the representative payee program, preparing bank reconciliations, serving as backup for accounts payable and payroll, and working on various other ad-hoc projects for the Finance Department. Must be capable of taking lead role on assignments as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or closely related field and two to five years’ experience in an accounting environment required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as invoices, bank deposit slips, government regulations, procedure manuals and various other financial documents. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, banks, government agencies, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and the job related software, a keyboard, calculator, telephone, FAX, photocopier, etc. Advance knowledge of MIP/Sage Accounting system a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
