Title: Environmental Scientist
Full Time / Part-Time: Full Time
Location: Anchorage, AK
Reports to: Environmental Project Manager
Job Overview:
Environmental Scientist with 1-5 years of experience in environmental restoration projects, preferably for United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or other federal and state government agencies. Prospective candidates must have experience with site investigation, characterization, and remediation projects regulated by ADEC and/or EPA. May through September will include 1–3-week rotations in the field. The work schedule will be a combination of office, urban and field work, including locations such as Unalaska and/or other areas of rural Alaska.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with the Project Manager in developing work plans and schedules.
• Collaborates with the site Superintendent to execute approved work plans.
• Serves as the field environmental scientist and other technical staff in data collection, site investigation, evaluation of data collected, and remediation activities to support project objectives.
• Must take good field notes and documentation.
• Conducts site reconnaissance, including sampling activities.
• Conducts field surveys using Trimble and Rover or equivalent.
• Prepare deliverables with quality supporting documentation (site figures, appendices).
Required Skills:
• Must have experience in environmental fieldwork particularly in contaminated soil sampling
• Must have good communication skills
• Must be proficient with Microsoft office products.
• Must be highly organized
Preferred (but not required):
• GIS experience using ArcGIS
• Hazardous materials shipping certification, e.g. IATA
• Construction Quality Management certification
Education & Certifications:
• BS or BA in a science or engineering field.
• Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Qualified Sampler
Position requirements:
• Pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and/or random drug screen
• Pre-employment criminal background history check
• Must have or be willing to obtain 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
• HAZWOPER physical and respirator fit test
Physical Demands:
Works inside and outside. Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Can work effectively and safely in cold conditions. Most of the field work will occur during the summer or fall. May require travel in helicopter, aircraft, ATVs, and watercraft for short periods of time.
