OrthoSC, a 34-physician, orthopedically focused, multispecialty practice, situated along South Carolina’s idyllic Atlantic coast, is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and results-driven Chief Operating Officer. Based in Myrtle Beach, the practice serves the northeastern counties of South Carolina, offering a full range of musculoskeletal care. OrthoSC is the largest multi-specialty orthopedic group in South Carolina and brings a uniquely patient-focused approach to ensuring that communities have the fastest access to the highest quality care.

JOB SUMMARY

As the practice’s most senior operations leader, the COO leads and manages a diverse team who oversees the day-to-day operations across all clinic, imaging, and therapy sites along with a hybrid of remote/centralized patient-care support teams.

The COO works in close conjunction with the CEO and physician leadership to ensure that daily operations align with the long-term strategic goals of the practice. The COO is supported by an experienced team of Directors, with expertise in human resources, information technology, facilities management, procurement, revenue cycle, value-based care, ancillary services, and financial operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads a broad and diverse team to ensure the daily delivery of high-quality operational services across multiple locations.
    • Manages resource utilization to ensure delivery of financial targets.
    • Leverages benchmarking to constantly improve operational efficiency.
    • Proactively anticipates needs and is rarely caught off guard.
    • Maximizes access for patients by ensuring schedule availability and appropriate staffing across service lines.
    • Deeply understands, constantly evaluates, and implements workflow and process change to ensure efficiency, resiliency, and futureproofing.
    • Works with providers across the practice to create an environment that’s conducive to exceptional patient care, engaged team members, and productive providers.
    • Fosters a culture of service excellence.
    • Communicates constantly with varying audiences to build and maintain alignment between practice goals and operations.
  • Acts as a team builder, manager, coach, and leader-of-leaders, to maximize the abilities of an operational leadership team of directors, managers, and coordinators.
    • Challenges, trains, and invests in current leaders to maximize growth.
    • Ensures the proper training of new and existing operational team members.
    • Cultivates future leaders by identifying leadership potential in team members and creating opportunities for them to learn/grow.
  • In conjunction with physicians in each location, provides administrative supervision for mid-level providers.
  • Manages complex relationships with external stakeholders, including but not limited to:
    • Referral partners, and other healthcare providers within a patient’s episode of care.
    • Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers
    • State and federal regulatory agencies.
    • Product and Service vendors.
  • Works in conjunction with the leadership team to plan, communicate, deploy, and integrate new practice initiatives.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and providers.
  • Ensures operational compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Leads the practice to success in applicable quality reporting/payment programs.
  • Leads the maximization of the practice’s EMR system for patient care.
    • Leads the review, analysis, communication, training, and maximization of current and new features/functions.
    • Prioritizes maximal patient benefit, experience, and access.
    • Improves the efficiency of staff/provider workflows.
  • Works in conjunction with the collective leadership team to plan, prepare, and respond for business continuity & emergency operations.
  • Continually grows professionally to remain on the forefront of leadership within a healthcare setting.
    • Remains aware of industry trends, legislative changes, and new technologies.
    • Attends conferences and meetings to learn and advance the craft of healthcare management.
    • Obtains and maintains relevant certifications and licensures to enhance leadership abilities.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10yrs senior leadership experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, or greater, preferred.
  • Surgical practice / ambulatory clinic leadership experience preferred.
  • Extensive experience in leading successful change in patient centered care delivery.
  • Experience in delivering against challenging performance targets, and of managing others to do so.
