Orthopaedic Specialists PC is Hiring a Worker's Compensation Coordinator Near Davenport, IA

POSITION: Worker’s Compensation Coordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO: Billing Office Supervisor / Practice Administrator

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates all worker’s compensation matters for the clinic and physicians. Serves as a liaison between physicians and outside payors, case managers, and employers to ensure timely care and submission of patient information.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree and/or previous worker’s compensation experience, including, but not limited to certification.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two to three years of worker’s compensation experience
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required. Attention to detail is imperative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible to work in a variety of areas, as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, other health care providers and the public under stressful conditions
  • Comfortable using email and interacting with internet applications

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Verifies and obtains approval from employer/carrier for new worker’s comp cases.
  • Enters all new worker’s comp cases into electronic medical records, sets-up billing for each worker’s comp patient, and assists in the collection of worker’s comp payments.
  • Reviews, verifies, and transmits work status and other reports on all worker’s comp appointments. 
  • Coordinates and schedules worker’s comp patient appointments.
  • Coordinates and schedules rehab conferences.
  • Receives requests for physicians to complete forms, mails corresponding letter requesting payment for completion of forms, and delivers forms to physicians for completion after receiving payment. 
  • Oversees daily mailing of worker’s comp surgery medical records and HCFA forms and mails any outstanding worker’s comp surgery medical records and HCFA forms.
  • Responds to any worker’s comp medical records requests from worker’s comp carriers and/or employers in a timely manner.
  • Obtains job descriptions and return to work alternatives for all worker’s comp patients and delivers them to the treating physician.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with worker’s comp carriers, occupational medicine clinics, and referring providers.
  • Acts as a liaison between the employer, worker’s comp carrier, and physician.
  • Obtains pre-certs for all worker’s comp appointments, testing, and surgeries and maintains and manages the worker’s comp pre-cert list on a daily basis.
  • Represents Orthopaedic Specialists at worker’s comp related events and meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of Orthopaedic Specialists.

Other:

  • Attends AAOS, BONES, Medicare, Medicaid and carrier updates and seminars upon request
  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
  • Attends continuing education courses as requested
  • Attends all meetings as requested
  • Performs any additional duties as requested by supervision

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Typical Physical Demands:

Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye­ hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports/documentation.
