Description

Position Overview

The Development Director has a variety of responsibilities and coordinates efforts to increase Oregon Supported Living Program’s funding base. The director's main objective is to implement, develop and execute a strategic fundraising and development plan to procure funds for Oregon Supported Living Program, while promoting our mission and programs. This position deals with a diverse group of internal/external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at all levels of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, this position provides agency development support.

  • Develop and execute OSLP’s annual fundraising plan and calendar. Creates and administers all fund-raising activities.
  • Research prospective donors, cultivate relationships, and solicit financial support from individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Maintain donor database. Responsibilities include data entry, gift processing, generating receipts, acknowledging donors, and generating all communication and campaign letters.
  • Manage OSLP website content updates and create social media campaigns and content.
  • Work with Arts & Culture Program Director, Executive Director, and team to develop clear and consistent messaging in relation to all fundraising and development goals.
  • Maintain and develop close working relationship with Board and related committees, including opportunities for training, cultivation of prospective Board members, and attendance at Board and committee meetings.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts of Executive Director, Board of Directors and other fundraising activities.
  • Produce and distribute marketing materials and annual newsletter. Includes graphic design, soliciting content from program directors, staff, community partners and clients, editing content, overseeing printing and mailing of all materials or submitting files to publications, submitting all press releases, adhering to deadlines and technical requirements.
  • Oversee organization of special events, including logistical planning, marketing, sponsorships, and volunteer management, in collaboration with the Events Coordinator.
  • In cooperation with the Grant Committee, and the Arts and Culture Director, coordinate all grant writing activities, including researching funders, formulating project plans and budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director, Program Directors and Finance Manager, write grant applications and reports and supervise contracted and volunteer grant writers.
  • Collaborate with various program staff to deliver informative presentations to the public with confidence and professionalism.
  • Network with local business owners/managers, other nonprofits, and individuals. Coordinate donor cultivation events.
  • Type and design general correspondence, memos, charts, tables, graphs; proofreads copy for spelling, grammar and layout, making appropriate changes. Responsible for accuracy and clarity of final copy.
  • Responsible for attending professional development and networking meetings, chamber events, and fill in for the Executive Director at Lane Leaders.
  • Weekly meeting with the Arts and Culture Director and the Executive Director.

  • Position will occasionally require some flexibility in attending events outside of normal business hours.

Aptitude Requirements

  • Must be able to read English and write it legibly; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to perform basic math functions.
  • Must have the ability to analyze, reason, and make decisions; excellent organization skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to learn and retain new skills.
  • Two (2) years’ experience with graphic design, desktop publishing, grant writing, donor development and Board development preferred. 
  • Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Prezi and Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM programs. 
  • General knowledge of secretarial, office administrative procedures and operation of standard office equipment. Work requires continual attention to detail in material preparation and interaction.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills.
  • Must have dependable level of interpersonal skill to handle sensitive and confidential information. Position continually requires tact and diplomacy.
  • Formal education consistent with job requirements. Prefer individual with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing or nonprofit management and experience in the nonprofit community; must understand the ins and outs of nonprofits, including legal fund-raising techniques.
  • Ability to pass a full criminal history background check.

Environmental Factors

  • Most work is performed in an office environment.

  • Occasional driving of vehicle.
  • Work is in a fast-paced environment and requires the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
