Oregon Health & Science University is Hiring an Open Rank Faculty Position in Psychiatry Near Portland, OR

Department Overview

The Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University is seeking to make an open-rank faculty hire during the current academic year, as part of an anticipating expansion of a recently established developmental psychopathology research center. The Center is well endowed and engages strong scientists in multiple areas of developmental psychopathology including developmental origins (maternal and infant), adolescent behavioral risk, ADHD, depression/suicide risk, and substance use, as well as using multiple methodologies including genetics, epigenetics, neuroimaging, neuropsychology and cognitive computational methods, and advanced analytics for prediction science. Clinical trials are using novel treatments are underway. The Department and the Center are seeking applications for a faculty appointment to join our faculty in the Fall of 2023. We are seeking clinical or basic scientists to conduct research in any area of developmental psychopathology that will either build on or complement existing strengths. OHSU is well equipped with a state-of-the-art neuroimaging center, outstanding core facilities and laboratories, a strong pre- and post-doctoral training infrastructure, and proximally-housed developmental and clinical researchers with ample space for study data collection. Portland, Oregon remains one of the most desirable places to live in the country and continues to attract a net inflow of residents, due to its mild climate, spectacular scenery, rich cultural scene, and ready access to all forms of outdoor recreation.

Function/Duties of Position

The appointee in Psychiatry (either PHD, MD, or MD/PHD) shall conduct independent research in developmental psychopathology and mental health/illness and may provide clinical and educational services as will be determined, in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in relevant field and with relevant training to conduct nationally recognized research in any area of developmental psychopathology. If a clinician-scientist must be licensed or license eligible in Oregon.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. with training in a relevant field (e.g., psychology/psychiatry, behavioral neuroscience, behavioral genetics, or others).
  • If intending to conduct clinical work, the applicant must be licensed or license eligible in Oregon.
  • A demonstrated capability to attract extramural research funding.
  • A strong scientific publication record for rank or stage of career.
  • A well-articulated program of research in any area of developmental psychopathology, focused either on a major class of psychopathology, major risk factors, key processes, clinical trials, or new methodology and instrumentation.
  • Interest and ability to mentor trainees in clinical psychology and other fields.
  • Willingness to participate in the educational mission of the University via assisting with doctoral level courses, residency training, or other training programs.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
  • Participation in the scholarly life of the University via Grand Rounds, consultation, and instruction.
  • Service on Departmental and University committees as appropriate.
