It is the responsibility of all medical personnel to maintain all licenses and certifications that correspond to their individual jobs, (for example; CPR, nursing, x-ray, etc.). All fees and dues will be paid by Oregon Foot Clinic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Medical assisting tasks:
Greet and prepare patients for their appointment – confirm identity; record vital signs (when necessary, ex Pre-op) and other appropriate information, maintain medication and allergy records, and document all interactions
Room patient
Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas
Assist doctors’ as needed: ie. procedures, faxes, patient communications
Check doctors’ “out” box Exam rooms:
Inventory and stock supplies and forms
Empty garbage/replace sharps containers when full
Refill soap and paper towel dispensers
Sweep, mop, disinfect and dust
Maintain inventory of supplies, order and unpack medical supplies
Set up appointments with interpreter when needed
Under the delegation of senior staff, you may:
Obtain specimens; perform required testing
Assist or perform point-of-care tests and clinical procedures
Fit patients with removable cast, prepare any patient take-home paperwork or baggies, cut out adhesive felt templates
Follow procedures for handling and disposing of biohazardous, infectious and pharmaceutical waste
Call in prescriptions
Set up injections and sterile trays Prepare, sterilize, repackage and date stamp instruments
Prepare, clean and sterilize, and/or reprocess instruments (autoclaving) and maintain equipment with validated competencies
Increasingly advanced procedures with validated competencies with training:
Check surgery benefits, obtain pre-certification if needed, schedule surgeries, and maintain surgery log, maintain Xray equipment, take Xrays
General tasks
Provide excellent customer service as a first point of contact
Navigate multiple data systems to research, record and data entry of pertinent information
Obtain patient referrals, authorizations, insurance eligibility checking
Provide timely communication and information to patients, families and practitioners
Help with transporting garbage and recycles curbside on pickup days
Help with maintenance of break room; wash dishes, clean refrigerator if needed, clean microwave
Empty garbage and recycles in break room, Assist with vacuuming/mopping common areas
Keep work area clean and presentable at all times, clean up discovered messes
Help maintain waiting room; pick up garbage, check cup supply, general straightening, check water jugs and replace (or notify someone) Help with special projects when requested
Promote organization mission, vision, and values:
Answer multi-line phones, schedule appointments, check patients in, day’s batch,
Take care of voice mails, maintain copy/fax machine, file, fax, update information
Create/update, print, mail (if needed) forms and/or brochures, referral thank you’s
Take or return medical related phone calls from patients
Mail/Fax any medically related correspondence
Keep updated on Clinic procedures, healthcare policies and rules and regulations
Shred documents when required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
American Heart Association BLS certification, CPR
Experience with practice management software and electronic health record applications
Preferred
Medical assistant certification, or CNA, LPN, or other similar care education
