Responsibilities
The Clinical Applications Manager coordinates the clinical pharmacy services for the pharmacy department and for allied health professionals. The Clinical Applications Manager creates, directs, and manages the daily clinical operations of the pharmacy department. The Clinical Applications Manager, reporting to the Pharmacy Director, works jointly and collaboratively with the IT Pharmacy Team to oversee and validate the building and maintenance of the pharmacy information system and integrated medication record. The Clinical Applications Manager, is responsible for the coordination of medication and pharmacy-related functionality within the integrated electronic health record (Epic) and other related pharmacy and IT systems.
Promote protocols and systems that foster safety and positive patient outcomes, consistent with the mission and vision of the organization. Assist in formulating and facilitating strategic direction and manage system pharmacy information technology best practice strategy, operations, and medication management throughout the health system. Provide professional consultative oversight regarding the maintenance, upgrading, evaluation and general advancements of pharmacy initiatives. This position assists with the optimization of key business processes through analysis and articulating current state workflows and barriers to optimization, as related to pharmacy information technology. Assist with assessment of medication-use systems for vulnerabilities to medication errors and assist with implementation of medication-error prevention strategies. Analyze business requirements and design specifications.
Acts as a primary professional pharmacist responsible for pharmaceutical products, formulary management, clinical and medication use policy dimensions of pharmacy information systems, the integrated medical record, clinical documentation system, and the inpatient and ambulatory CPOE/EHR system, and the development and management of pharmacoeconomic programs to streamline medication cost and enhance patient outcomes. This position is responsible for the coordination of these systems with an intimate understanding of changing scientific and biomedical evidence, a dynamic medication distribution system (being altered to maximize safety and efficiency using various technology and human resources), and maturing technologies. This position is also responsible for coordinating pharmacy staff and pharmacy leaders input into system design and coordinating necessary decisions related to clinical and information system operations within the pharmacy department.
Establish the quality and performance improvements and metrics for the clinical pharmacy services. Conduct workflow analysis of current practice, suggest practice improvement and standardization based upon best practice and safety recommendations, advice on design flow for the components of the system, and help develop training materials for the implementation. Plan, organize, and maintain data sources for pharmacy informatics and automation by partnering with Information Technology to determine the best way to implement and optimize current configurations. Support and consult on validation of changes to the pharmacy modules, including integrated testing, training, functional support, auditing modifications /implementations, and documentation.
Assist with the direction and coordination of training curricula and instruction for clinical pharmacy and clinical application related education. Coordinates vendor and assists with internal training programs based on competency, implementation, and performance improvement activity needs.
Oversee optimal integration of multiple medication use related programs at Garnet Health Medical Center. And ensure that the Pharmacy Department provides safe and effective care by facilitating optimal clinical care, meeting all legal, accreditation and certification requirements. Build collaborative relationships between Pharmacy, Physicians, Nursing, IT and other users to ensure the optimum design and use of clinical software and workflows for patient safety, patient experience, resource efficiency, and revenue capture. Work closely with information systems and pharmacy staff to understand system programming requirements, capabilities and limitations. Support the medication use process to ensure the safe and effective use of medications. This position will ensure that the Department maximizes the utilization of current systems by understanding of current system capabilities and communicating features and options to leaders and users. Identify metrics and monitor application use so that issues related to education, support, or compliance with standard procedures can be resolved.
Complies with all policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization. Facilitate and serves as a clinical and pharmacy information technology resource related regulatory compliance matters. Monitor industry trends, vendor roadmaps, technology advancements and make recommendations to leadership. Evaluate technologies to ensure selections fit into long-term strategy. Insures best practice / evidence based medicine / standardization is implemented in all related information systems as appropriate.

Qualifications
Minimum Education: PharmD, Successful completion of PGY-1 Residency. Advanced Certifications (PGY-2) or Degree (MBA, MPA or MS in Hospital Pharmacy Administration).
Minimum Experience:
Required Certification/Registration: Current NYS Pharmacist License and Registration
Physical Requirements: Stands, walks, sits thru the day. Visual acuity required for close computer work and report preparation.
