ORANGE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM is Hiring an IT Systems Administrator Near Orlando, FL

SUMMARY: 
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technology duties related to the planning, monitoring, support and management of the Library’s data and voice communications systems. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Performs day-to-day operations support for systems to include system backup, user account, management, and report generation; create, configure, maintain and troubleshoot user accounts.
  • Provides support for Melrose Center hardware, software and peripherals.
  • Prepares users by designing and conducting training programs; providing references and support.
  • Configures, modifies, installs, supports, and maintains third-party applications.
  • Upgrades IT systems by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Projects short and long-term requirements for the network based on current utilization and trends.
  • Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Determine root cause of issues and communicate appropriately to internal and external customers.
  • Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience: 

Associate’s degree in information technology, or a closely related field; AND four (4) years of network administration and management experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: 
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Required Knowledge and Skills: 

Required Knowledge:

  • Network protocols; the interdependence of software and hardware operating in a multi-functioning, multi-user network environment.
  • Principles, practices and techniques in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of network hardware and software.
  • Concepts and capabilities of computer operation platforms.
  • Use of network management tools and network problem analysis techniques.
  • Use of network management tools and network problem analysis techniques.
  • Operating system commands, systems integration and data communication.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Required Skills:

  • Training others in policies and procedures related to the work.

  • Operation of network management software, project management software, and network utilities.
  • Installation and maintenance of servers, workstation operating systems, routers, switches and other equipment.
  • Use of troubleshooting tools and techniques and problem-solving methods.
  • Evaluating and providing recommendations for operations, hardware and software acquisitions, and upgrades.
  • Providing consulting services to supervisors and managers.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: 

Under General Supervision - Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions.
