About this position

This position is responsible for implementing curriculum and facilitating enriching classroom experiences while ensuring a safe and caring environment for the enrolled children. This role is responsible for following agency policies, providing supervision for enrolled children, and maintaining a quality program.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing a safe and well supervised environment;
  • Providing a coordinated, educational program based on the Enrichment Program curriculum;
  • Providing a wide variety of experiences for children;
  • Creating and implementing lesson plans;
  • Providing guidance and direction to the associate teachers, and ensuring that they are following policies and procedures;
  • Working with site staff and children to maintain a clean environment in the classrooms, playground, lunch courtyard, and any other areas of the campus used by the program;
  • Coordinating activities with school administration, teachers, and collaborative community partners;
  • Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents, volunteers, site staff, office staff, and school personnel;
  • Working effectively with other team members;
  • Actively participating in staff meetings and in-service trainings;
  • Promoting full enrollment and participating in recruitment of children;
  • Communicating regularly with the family service specialist regarding the program’s recruitment needs, children’s enrollments and terminations, and site paperwork;
  • Submitting accurate and complete paperwork and documentation in a timely manner, and according to division policies and procedures;
  • Reading and implementing agency and program policies and procedures;
  • Accomplishing other duties, as assigned, to create and maintain a quality enrichment program;
  • Assisting the education coordinator as needed.

What you bring to the table

  •  Forty-eight semester units with a passing grade of "C" or better OR pass the district instructional aid exam;
  • One year experience working with children ages 5-12 with minimum six months in an after-school program;
  • Certified in Pediatric First Aid and CPR by an accredited organization;
  • Ability to communicate in written and oral English correctly and effectively;
  • Associate's degree in education, child development, social work, or other related field, as deemed by the agency (preferred);
  • A California Driver's License, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred);
  • Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin or Vietnamese (preferred).

Job specifications

  • Reports to the education coordinator;
  • Routine schedule is Monday through Friday, after school;
  • Nine-and-a-half-month approximate work year;
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required;
  • Additional hours may be required during school breaks, i.e., winter break, spring break, and summer break;
  • Employment responsibilities, compensation, or any other factor may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the Agency's contracts, or at Agency discretion.
