How you will make an impact

This role is a senior member of the People team and offers someone the opportunity to serve as a trusted advisor to the business as we continue to grow and be instrumental in establishing Opensignal as a Best Place to Work. 

The global People function was formally established in 2022 and we are in the process of implementing foundational programs to support the organization and our people. The Director, People will bring their expertise, experience and energy as a business partner to senior leadership, and as a functional operator to lead strategic talent initiatives and drive change management efforts that allow us to deliver a fantastic career experience for everyone we support. She/He/They will demonstrate learning and leadership agility, showing a proactive curiosity and passion for our vision of "Advancing connectivity around the globe”, taking action to make us better. 

The Team

The People team, composed of 8 passionate, smart and caring individuals spanning Victoria, BC to London, UK, is focused on enabling Opensignal as a “Best Place to Work”. What you will do

  • Serve as a strategic talent partner to the business.

○ With your understanding of the business and our opportunities, the Director, People will work with executive leadership on a people strategy that enables success. As a member of the leadership team for the business units you support, you will focus on attracting, developing and retaining our top talent.

Coach and influence senior leaders on development, engagement and inclusion that can have the potential to create a competitive advantage for the business.

Facilitate organizational and talent reviews to drive ‘fit for purpose’ organizational structure, development, and effectiveness through talent capabilities. 

Keeps abreast of industry market trends as well as functional trends, and uses these insights for continuous innovation and improvements. 

  • Own and drive People programs for the global organization. Our lean team size provides opportunities to wear multiple hats. We work to pair career aspirations with business needs so that what you take on provides you valuable growth opportunities. Examples of recent initiatives include: global salary structure, performance development implementation, total rewards review and evolution, onboarding)

○ Act as a catalyst for positive change in support of our culture; guiding and driving change management and communications solutions that contribute to stronger collaboration and connections.

  • Deliver functional operational excellence.

○ As an enabling function responsible for our most significant and costly resource, our people, it is critical that this role looks for and drives operational efficiencies and continuous improvement where we can. Every team member plays a part in our evolution as a function, and in this role, you will be looked at to bring your previous best practices and experiences to Opensignal.

○ Identify and drive functional improvements and efficiencies that take ‘the friction out of work’ and better enable our business clients to focus their energy on serving our customers.

○ Serve as a mentor and coach to our more junior People team members as we continue to grow.

  • Increased Employee NPS score, and increase in engagement score ● Increase in leader and manager effectiveness metrics
  • Achieve people growth and retention targets
  • Qualitative feedback from your business leaders

Required Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR or related field is required. MBA or equivalent experience is desirable. 
  • 10-15 years of experience in all aspects of human resources with 5 years of recent experience in an HR Business Partner role, supporting a global, matrixed organization, ideally in a SaaS or Data company connected to telecom
  • Demonstrated experience providing both strategic thought partnership work as well as rolling up your sleeves to drive impact without sophisticated systems or automation.
  • Experience as a HR Business Partner for a global business and experience supporting multiple sites and a proud multicultural workforce.
  • Experience with HRIS system implementation, people analytics, and global talent management will allow you to make more impact faster
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle people-challenges creatively, drive change effectively, and deliver solutions that enable business success.
  • Strong intellect and ability to garner trust as an advisor through business knowledge, relationship-building, and an ability to drive results collaboratively. ● Project and people management skills including building and executing a project plan, managing resources and stakeholders, and communicating in large and small groups
  • Effective communication skills among diverse audiences and an ability to connect, coach, and mentor
  • A positive attitude, sound judgment, professionalism with handling confidential information
  • Proficiency with digital tools including GoogleSuite, decision support, data visualization, and online social tools (Confluence, Slack) that facilitate information sharing; experience with 15Five, Payscale a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to work in our Boston office as needed (~1-2 days/week) and to travel to other offices if needed (maybe 1-2x/year)
