Job Description: The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for performing all duties of pre-certification as well as scheduling all surgeries, testing, and admissions. The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the physicians’ schedules. Surgery Coordinator don’t just schedule patients for surgical procedures; they also ensure that patients are properly scheduled for diagnostic testing, referrals, and other parts of their treatment plan—as requested by physicians. Likewise, monitoring cancellations and organizing medical appointment slots are daily duties of surgery schedulers. These professionals must also possess strong communication and computer skills to juggle multiple patient appointments and maintain minimal errors in their scheduling system. Responsibilities: · Coordinates all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries. · Schedule procedures in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. · Verify demographics, medications, prior surgical and medical history · Follow guidelines of SPUH and CARES Surgi Center including proper booking sheets · Answer any and all questions patient may have prior to and after surgery. · Schedule radiation consultation and post-operative appointment. · Schedule for pre-operative class. · Responsible for maintaining block time guidelines at SPUH. · Obtain appropriate ICD 10 and CPT codes for procedures. · Performs and coordinates all activities related to pre-certifications. · Assures that all activities related to the pre-certification process are within established procedures and of acceptable quality. · Responsible for establishing all standard operating procedures relative to the pre-certification process. · Maintains a working knowledge of insurance to achieve objective of furnishing prompt, accurate information to the correct party. · Verifies insurance benefits. · Remains knowledgeable of physicians’ schedules at all times to assure surgeries and procedures are scheduled in conjunction with their schedules. · Ensure all surgeries have pre-certifications and obtains referral authorizations. · Continually monitors physicians schedule to ensure efficiency. · Obtain preadmission testing, medical clearance and schedule patient for clearance if labs are abnormal · Responsible for arranging needle loc and nuclear injection with other departments. · Help to promote high levels of service with patients and their families. · Listen with empathy to patient’s needs, both in person and on the phone. · Perform all assignments with efficiency and accuracy. · Performs all other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: · High school diploma or equivalent · Associate’s degree preferred · Strong working knowledge of medical terminology · 2 - 5 years experience in a healthcare setting · 1 years of surgical scheduling experience (physician’s office, clinic or hospital) · Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills · Proficiency with word processing software · Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
