Set to open in Spring 2023, Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU will amplify Tempe’s revitalized downtown area, and bring some of the largest conference and meeting space to the city. The hotel will feature 330 guest rooms, including 11 suites, four dining outlets, a spacious pool deck, retail, and almost 36,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space with expansive views of the ASU campus and the Arizona cityscape. Whether you are looking for a destination for your weekend getaway, a meeting room or event space for a conference or wedding, the Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is sure to meet the needs of the most refined travelers.

Job Description

Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is seeing an experienced Purchasing Manager to join the pre-opening team of our brand-new upscale hotel. This critical role administers the acquisition of all food, beverage, and non-perishable purchases for the property. Working closely with the hotel’s culinary and finance teams, this individual will act as a liaison between the hotel and suppliers in the procurement of goods and services.

As we prepare for our hotel opening in the spring of 2023, this will be a fantastic opportunity for someone who is interested in setting the foundation for proper ordering and inventory systems and procedures. The anticipated start date for this role is December 2022.

Responsibilities

  • Create processes and structure to facilitate proper inventory management and ordering practices.
  • Directly supervise the purchasing/receiving staff through delegation of work tasks to achieve set objectives.
  • Coordinate and monitor work performed by storeroom associates, specifically food and beverage requirements according to forecasted menus.
  • Establish and maintain training tools for team members to achieve a better knowledge and understanding of the purchasing process and applications such as: product familiarity, receiving and storage standards.
  • Maintain close communications with the executive chef and catering department on requirements for future menu events to evaluate menus against par inventories in determining necessary requirements for outlets and banquet functions.
  • Coordinate weekly wine, liquor and beer purchases, ensuring compliance with state liquor laws. Establish and maintain requisition procedures for alcoholic beverages that guarantee maximum control over inventories.
  • Work daily with Accounts Payable to ensure Birchstreet is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Responsible for monthly inventory and EOM reconciliation of food and beverage usage, and EOM accounts payable closing.
  • Manage weekly bid process to ensure the best prices are being obtained on frequently purchased items.
  • Evaluate vendor performance in compliance to purchasing bid procedures and Monitor vendor ability to provide timely and consistent quality according to established specifications.
  • Interact with all other departments to ensure that guest needs are satisfied.
  • Attend all food and beverage and related meetings such as menu tie-down, weekly forecast and financial services.
  • Communicate and review new objectives and other concerns identified in interdepartmental meetings.
  • Responsible for departmental staffing decisions, training, reviews, promotions, disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support hotel needs, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience as storeroom attendant in a high volume, food and beverage operation. Upscale hotel experience preferred.
  • Exceptional guest service skills.
  • Birchstreet experience is preferred.
  • Computer skills including Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information, data and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high paced environment.
  • Be able to make quick decisions and possess good judgment.
  • People leadership experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend and lift items of moderate to heavy weight.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
