The corporate communications and branding (CCB) department is responsible for (i) promoting and maintaining Oaktree’s outstanding reputation; (ii) creating and managing content that effectively promotes our business, executives, investment strategies, capabilities and brand; (iii) managing all digital assets and social media accounts (iv) managing media relations and all speaking engagements and Oaktree-hosted events; and (v) creating marketing programming that raise awareness about Oaktree and its broad investment capabilities. Responsibilities The Los Angeles/New-York-based Vice President, Corporate Communications (Americas) will originate, drive, and support global brand building and marketing activities in the Americas. External Communications Maintain awareness and reputation of Oaktree’s brand through variety of appropriate channels, including speaking engagements, media, client communications, videos, webcasts, podcasts, social media, websites, etc. Collaborate with colleagues to learn about our clients, products, markets and competitors. Develop messaging that shares Oaktree’s point of view and differentiates us in a highly competitive field. Develop an understanding of Oaktree’s investment philosophy, investment strategies and relevant markets. Review and edit content to ensure language is grammatically correct and in line with the firm’s style guide and messaging is clear, concise and audience-appropriate. Help manage public relations activities (e.g., media interviews, speaking engagements, etc.) in collaboration with the Head of CCB and the firm’s outside public relations firms. Prepare and review press releases, presentations and executive talking points for media interviews, external conferences and other events, working closely with the subject matter experts, the Head of CCB, the firm’s outside PR firms, and the Legal and Compliance departments. Support, implement and champion the firm’s media strategy by managing the sub-department’s agenda and creating proposals/presentations for all meetings and initiatives. Protect the Oaktree brand by vetting speaking opportunities, reviewing press releases, educating firm speakers, reviewing proposed third-party uses of the Oaktree brand/name, and maintaining appropriate records. Originate, present and execute ideas for speaking engagements and other programming that support business development objectives in the near- and long-term, ensuring Oaktree continues to be a trusted partner with an enduring brand. Coordinate industry award submissions with appropriate individuals, teams and the Legal and Compliance departments. Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external communications around the firm’s responsibility, culture and people initiatives, collaborating closely with Oaktree’s D&I, ESG and HR teams, in addition to the firm’s Employee Networks. Stay informed about industry trends to support external communications activities. Review industry practices, stakeholder feedback and analytics to improve program effectiveness. Employee Communications Manage the firm’s internal communications efforts, working with executive leadership, human resources, corporate services, and other departments across the firm to create and edit content. Ensure employees are kept up to date on the firm’s results, goals, progress, and new and on-going initiatives, by drafting scripts, digital communications, and presentations. Organize and create content for internal events, Town Halls or seminars in partnership with other groups to engage or educate employees. Stay informed about corporate initiatives or events and be proactive about developing and sharing internal communications on Oaktree’s internal or social media channels, when appropriate. Develop content, including talking points, for internal use regarding corporate milestones and announcements. Manage the content review and approval process from first drafts to distribution with colleagues across the firm (e.g., investment professionals, product specialists, department managers, graphics specialists, compliance officers and executive leadership). Review and edit content to ensure language is grammatically correct and in line with the firm’s style guide and messaging is clear, concise and, audience-appropriate. Project Management Design, manage, and successfully implement initiatives and supervise business operations with key internal stakeholders (e.g., marketing representatives, product specialists, portfolio managers, executive leadership and legal and compliance associates). Understand the scope of work, timing and desired outcome to develop comprehensive project plans. Create internal and external communications plans. Identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation plans. Define deliverables, the review process, deadlines and owners. Develop and manage budgets/operating plans for programs, projects/events and sub-departments. Anticipate project needs, navigate obstacles, and negotiate changes in priorities, timing and scope. Stay informed about and always take into account compliance requirements and advertising rules/guidelines. Oversee colleagues involved in each stage of a project, adapting his/her management style to suit the situation, the individual stakeholder, and the desired outcome. Qualifications 10 years of relevant experience in client, public or investor relations. Experience in asset management and marketing (preferred). Communications experience involving writing for both external and internal audiences. Extensive project management experience. Facility with Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
