Overview

Serve as facility Security Officer providing high responsibility assistance to staff, public and clients.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include, but are not limited to…):

• Aid with all services and activities involved in facility and event security• Assist with coordinating contract security for events• Assist supervisor with local police and fire rescue• Patrols facility to ensure safety and security of building • Answer and respond to alarms within the facility• Monitor the guest and visitors’ entrances• Write reports and incidents that may occur• Assist supervisor in issuing keys/equipment to employees and clients• Assist supervisor in general duties of Public Safety, theft deterrence and loss prevention• Log and Tag Lost and Found• Perform safety inspections as assigned by the supervisor• Recommend modifications to security and employee safety programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by supervisor

Qualifications

SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS/KNOWLEDGE:

• Possess demonstrable experience with the characteristics, services and activities of public facility security and safety programs• Verifiable experience of similar operations in a large, service-oriented environment• Possess crowd management and control techniques• Possess working knowledge of pertinent Federal, State and Local laws, codes and regulations• Possess computer skills to include Microsoft Office and internet use• Ability to remain calm in emergency response situations which could be life threatening• Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations• Must understand the organization and operation of convention center and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written format• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work• Must be able to work any shift, weekdays, weekends and/or holidays

INTELLECTUAL/SOCIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:The intellectual/social, physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intellectual/Social demands:• While performing duties of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits and with moderate to high pressure situations. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

Physical Demands:• Employee is frequently required to sit; stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:• The essential functions of this position are performed indoors in an office and/or warehouse environment and outdoors (in the weather conditions prevalent at the time) as necessary and required by certain events. The noise level in the work environment can range from minimal to loud during event days depending on the employee’s location, and is minimal during non-event days.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older Two (2) years of increasingly responsible security experience  Two (2) years of increasingly responsible guest service experience

Education / Training: High school diploma, or equivalent GED

Licenses or Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain a Ohio State Security Guard Certification Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR certificate and AED certificate
