Senior Project Director, Health and Human Rights Initiative - O'Neill Institute - Georgetown University Law Center
Georgetown Law's Health and Human Rights Initiative - within our O'Neill Institute - works to improve health through academic research that focuses on the nexus of health and international human rights law. Our team collaborates closely with local partners to build capacity, provide technical assistance, and pursue strategic litigation on health and human rights issues, especially in Latin America.
Job Overview
The Senior Project Director (SPD) collaborates with the O'Neill Institute Initiative Director to identify critical issues, conduct the highest level of policy analysis, develop scholarship, and translate research and evidence into policy. The SPD independently manages a large project portfolio and research program, and designs and develops major program components, including the strategy, policy and processes of the Initiative. As well, they plan, direct, and control program budget for all projects under their direct purview.
The SPD works with the Health and Human Rights team to develop comprehensive analysis of policies, to identify pathways for policy implementation, and to seek funding for projects to achieve these ends. They identify promising policies and policy proposals and formulate innovative policy responses; develop scholarship to introduce, elaborate upon, and share these ideas with the health community; and collaborate with public health thought leaders, undertake communication efforts, and engage policymakers to act on proposed responses in the near-term as well as, by influencing the discourse, seek to affect policy responses over time.
Work Interactions
Generally, work interactions include:
  • Collaboration with O'Neill Institute's staff and faculty members to conduct advanced research projects, including legal and policy research.
  • Supervision of dedicated Associates and Research Assistants on relevant topics; projects involve legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related conferences and events
  • Development of ideas and options for faculty review and decision; development and implementation of instruction and research programs that reflect faculty interests' as well as evaluation of effectiveness of curricula, programs and funded projects to meet these goals
  • Participation in fundraising

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • 7 to 10 years of substantive analytic, research, and substantive skills related to health policy at the local, state, and national levels
  • Ability to conduct highest level of research and policy analysis in the health and human rights field.
  • Exceptional academic credentials, including strong knowledge of experience in health law, policy, ethics, and governance
  • Adept at working with faculty, staff, and other officials at the Law Center and the University, and with government officials, private foundations, intergovernmental organizations, and the private sector
