ROLE:: :
The Mine & Technical Manager is fundamentally responsible for the underground operations. This includes the delivery of the annual production targets with zero harm to employees and contractors, upholding statutory compliance specifically in relation to health and safety obligations, and providing adequate planning, organisation, leadership and control of mining operations. This is achieved through the effective leadership of the mining operations team to develop and implement production plans, monitor production performance, and complete work activities in accordance with corporate policy and procedures.
KEY WORKS OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES::
Awareness and understanding of Nyrstar Operations related Standards.
Key Outputs: :

• Lead both the technical and mining operations teams to ensure that the mine plan is delivered and executed safely

• Lead the development and ongoing management of a reliable life of mine production plan

• Ensure that LOMP, budget and rolling forecast are developed and delivered to ensure that the business is sustainable.

• Review the financials and cost of the operations to ensure that they are within budget.

• Continuously find ways to improve the technical, financial and operational aspect of the business

• Monitor performance against plan and lead the production team to identify risks to delivering the plan

• Guarantee mine site full compliance to MSHA regulations

• Identify safety and compliance issues that have the potential to cause significant loss and assist in the development of action plans for reduced exposure.

• Review the crew leaders statutory reports with the Undermanager’s to identify all non-compliances & corrective action taken to rectify issues

• Identify and report opportunities for improvement and assign corrective actions/tasks to relevant site personal, which encouraging workforce input into these activities

• Manage significant transition and risk reduction projects

• Assist in the development and implementation a safety and health management system for the mine

• Develop, implement and maintain a management structure for the mine that helps ensure the safety and health of persons at the mine

• Ensure adequate supervision and control of mining operations on each shift at the mine

• Regularly monitor and assess the working environment, work procedures, equipment, and installations at the mine to ensure the risk to persons from mining operations is at an acceptable level

Investigate the causes of all mine site accidents or incidents, and report to the General Manager as required

Team Management: :Build, lead and develop the Technical & Operations team by:

• Effectively setting work contexts and allocate tasks to ensure individual, departmental and site work is adequately resourced

• Identify areas for staff development and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback

• Foster collaborative relationships with team members, ensuring that Nyrstar’s culture and values are promoted in all interactions

• Conducting performance/career management discussions and ensuring individual development plans are implemented

• Lead and facilitate the implementation of all Nyrstar’s people, safety, technical, operating and business systems

• Provide feedback on the effectiveness of systems to continually improve system performance and ensure systems meet the business needs

• Operate within the MOS and drive compliance in all interactions

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE::
QUALIFICATIONS::
Essential:

• Bachelor in Mining Engineering with previous positions in Underground mining (at least 8-10 years of experience)

• Candidate has held positions as Technical services Manager or Chief Engineer

Desirable:

• Tertiary Qualifications in a Mining Related Discipline
• Tertiary Qualifications in Management

EXPERIENCE::

• Leadership experience within mining operations and technical services

• Demonstrated experience leading a team of professionals to deliver against set targets

• Experience in driving best practice through your department and into the business. This includes the development and implementation of strategy in line with business goals

• Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes

• Track record in driving continuous improvement
