Nyrstar East Tennessee Mines is Hiring a Longhole/Exploration Driller-Coy (East Tennessee Mines) Near Tennessee, TN
THE ROLEThe purpose of this job is to optimize safe extraction of Materials at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. The Longhole/Exploration Drillers operates Longhole Drill Rigs to drill longholes in sections, collecting cutting sample per section then packaging and labeling for the geology department. Longholes are drilled to geology department specifications as to depth, direction, and angle. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/TASKS:
Plans and prepares drilling site (geology plans, operations prepares the sites)
Moves equipment and materials to site
Drills and monitors progression
Interprets drill plansthen drills holes and realign equipment according to drill design and ground conditions
Monitors ground conditionsand components to maintain safe drilling operations
Installs collar pipes according to site procedures We don’t use collar pipe unless drill through a packer in anticipation of hitting water
Removes drill cuttings and sludge to ensure drill hole remains clean
Completes all required documentation clearly, concisely and marks misdirected holes according to site procedures
Packs up drill site
Carries out operator maintenance
Conducts housekeeping activities

Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
Comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC As well as MSHA regulations
Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards
Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations
Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
Wears proper PPE at all times
Operations
Able to operate a long hole drill
Able to read geologist hole specifications
Able to read an angle gage
Able to perform job with minimum supervision
Competent in providing accurate samples
Able to read and secure ground as needed
People and Organization
Attend work in an punctual manner, fit for work, and that correct procedures are followed in cases where absences from work may occur
Maintain a sound relationship with Mine Shift Team Leader, coworkers, and other departments while working together
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
1-2 years’ experience in mining preferred
Experience in mine specific equipment
Demonstrated competence in ground control
Preferred knowledge of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
Understanding of technical and operating processes relevant to mine planning and scheduling
Sound understanding of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrated competence in coaching, mentoring and providing feedback to team members
Good time management and prioritization skills
Performs practical and manual activities
Has an aptitude for mechanics and is able to handle machinery
Is able to work as part of a team
Is willing to work alone in remote areas under difficult conditions
Has good organizational skills
Is able to record details accurately
