NV5 is Hiring a Fire Protection Engineer Near Saint Paul, MN

We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to develop plans and specifications, calculations, reports, and cost estimates on a number of concurrent projects based out of our Saint Paul office. Hybrid work schedule and remote work options available.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional engineering tasks in fire protection engineering, under the supervision of a senior engineer and/or project manager.
  • May obtain field data by conducting field visits to project sites both in state and out of state. May require overnight travel. Document existing conditions onto paper.
  • Reviews work of junior level engineers, designers and technicians to ensure quality.
  • Solves standard engineering problems.
  • Obtains knowledge of building codes and stays current with building code changes.
  • Performs research and writes reports.
  • Performs equipment takeoffs for estimating purposes.
  • Within fire protection, is able to design and lay out routine portions of a project by ACAD or other means, and is moderately proficient in CAD. Is able to draft the design him or herself.
  • Develops plans, specifications and cost estimates for a limited number of concurrent projects.
  • Creates final design documents.
  • Will perform calculations as well as operate various software packages related to various portions of the design package.
  • Using knowledge of the kinds of projects the firm designs, is able to specify engineering systems from catalogs or CADD systems.
  • Prepares studies, drawings or sketches as required.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, vendors and clients

Qualifications

Standard Administrative Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate from an engineering curriculum accredited by the Accreditation for Engineering and Technology or from a Nonaccredited engineering curriculum or related engineering science or with a B.S. degree in engineering Technology with four years of acceptable engineering experience or have a minimum of twelve years of specific on-the-job experience in the consulting engineering field including developing plans and specifications in his/her technical specialty
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the principles of the discipline he/she is designing
  • Formal training in AutoCAD and Revit preferred but adequate experience may be sufficient
  • Must be proficient in Revit.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Hydracalc Software is a plus.
  • Must be moderately proficient in the operation of a computer, Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work at a computer station for several hours per day and operate keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to physically navigate various job sites including mechanical rooms, rooftops, commercial and institutional buildings.
  • Must be able to walk substantial distances including climbing ladders and stairs.
