The Global Controller is responsible for the preparation of timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial statements, technical accounting research, managing the external auditor relationships and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger in accordance with GAAP accounting policies and procedures. The Global Controller will work closely with the CAO, CFO, FP&A Manager and NSM’s Senior Leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen controls and streamline processes to ensure that the F&A department embodies its role as a trusted business partner.

Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Provide oversight and guidance to optimize, lead and mentor a high-performing Global Controlling and Reporting team.
  • Ensure the Controlling team has the tools and resources to partner effectively across all other areas of NSM including goal setting, professional development and succession planning to model results-focused strategies and goals.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range Global Controlling goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures across the entire organization to improve the time to close and provide actionable feedback.

Reporting:

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting reporting functions.
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
  • Actively manage the domestic general ledger accounting activities while providing oversight and review of UK results.
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and prepare timely and accurate internal and external financial statements.
  • Coordinate the activities of external auditors.
  • Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process.
  • Assess current accounting operations processes, offering recommendations for improvement and implementation of new processes.
  • Evaluate and maintain accounting and internal control systems.
  • Improve the effectiveness of the Workday Finance accounting system and identify areas for improvement in the close process.
  • Manage outsourced functions.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Manage the integration of financial reporting and internal controls for acquisitions.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
  • Maintain the global chart of accounts.

Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience in an accounting leadership position, in roles of progressing responsibility for a major company or division of a large corporation.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills.
  • Strong systems skills, including Microsoft Suite and Power BI, and prior experience with system optimization and upgrades.
  • Experience with Workday Financial, highly preferred.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures, including technical pronouncements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, ideally complemented by a CPA certification.
