Plant Controller

Novelis North America (NNA) team is seeking a Plant Controller in Warren, Ohio. The person in this role will report to the Controller Can Ops of NNA. The ideal candidate has a wide range of responsibilities that are in place to handle the plant financial reporting, while maintaining an efficient and safe process that provides management with the necessary information required to make sound business decisions.

The Plant Controller ensures that the Warren plant demonstrates fiscal responsibility, following appropriate accounting standards (USGAAP), meeting Sarbanes – Oxley (SOX) rules and using corporate guidelines for budgeting, reporting, and forecasting. They are responsible for producing financial information and routine or ad hoc reporting for management decision making purpose. Ensure processing for plant accounting transactions to meet legal standards, with the issuance of official and internal reports.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Be an active member of the plant management team
• Prepare and record all monthly accounting entries and conduct all required reconciliations to ensure closing process meets company deadlines with accurate information.
• Prepare all plant financial reports including monthly financial statements submitted to corporate accounting and monthly analysis of spending to plant management team.
• Prepare quarterly reports to corporate accounting for quarter end financial reporting.
• Develop annual plan and forecast for the plant and adhere to the Operations Finance planning or forecasting reporting requirements
• Monitor and report capital expenditures to plan management team and corporate accounting
• Provide oversight and coordination of accounting functions related to requisitions, purchase orders, RFA’s and engineering projects.
• Perform monthly and periodic variance analysis to identify potential issues and possibilities for improvement in financial performance and be able to discuss findings with senior management
• Update standard costing on an annual basis
• Ensure that periodic fixed asset verification, and annual physical inventory count is taken, and proper documentation maintained
• Periodically review internal processes to find opportunities for improvement in timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency. Automate these processes where feasible to reduce cost and improve accuracy
• Identify growth opportunities or training needs for staff and ways to fill these opportunities

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting finance or business administration from an accredited college or university is required, Master’s degree a plus
• Minimum 5 years management accounting in a manufacturing environment
• Certification such as CPA or CMA preferred.
• Must have a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, cost accounting; experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• SAP experience preferred
• Be a role model for leading and developing a positive, team-oriented culture.
• Experience in creating an information system and platform that supports significant business growth preferred.
• Experience in creating and managing a changing financial organization as a strong Financial Accountant preferred.
• Ability to perform work accurately and independently
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
• Strong communication skills with the ability to convey and explain complex policies and guidelines
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and report writing tools
• Excellent verbal, math and writing skills

Location Profile

Novelis’ Warren facility is located in northeast Ohio— approximately an hour drive from Cleveland and an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. The facility built in 1965 applies coating to rolled aluminum beverage can sheet. The sheet is used to make aluminum beverage can lids for global soft drink beer and sparkling water brands. Warren showcases several high-end cultural venues including the Warren Community Amphitheater and Packard Music Hall. The 75 employee Warren team is active in the community promoting recycling supporting STEM education and offering a helping hand to local community shelters.
