Position Overview

Novelis Global Research and Technology located in Kennesaw, GA is seeking a Lead Engineer for the Customer Plant Support cluster. In this role you will report to the CPS/BCS(Customer Plant Support/Business Critical Support) Cluster Lead in Process and Product Technology group.

You will be responsible for leading and executing CPS/BCS projects to deliver business critical support of Novelis customers and Novelis production plants. You should have extensive project management skills and design knowledge of sheet aluminum products/process across diverse usage scenarios in the can, auto and specialties markets.

You will work closely with Novelis manufacturing plants to find opportunities for productivity/capacity and recovery improvement along with working collaboratively with other teams (competency clusters) of R&D Engineers and Scientists in Metallurgy, Forming, Joining and Additive Manufacturing, Surfaces/Coating and Corrosion to solve challenging problems across all Novelis value streams (Can, Auto and Specialties) and develop a deeper core knowledge. Opportunities exist to manage projects, interface with external customers and partners, travel to Global Novelis sites, and disseminate findings in peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities: 

• Lead projects to develop innovative new products and processes as well as to improve the current performance. Proactively propose new process changes to Novelis operations in response to process performance and reliability challenges. 
• Lead large internal and external customer-focused projects from concept to completion. Ensure projects are well planned, appropriately resourced, correctly prioritized and timely delivered. 
• Provide technical sharing and knowledge dissemination in Customer and Plant Support globally. 
• Mentor and coach other colleagues in safety, technical competency and project management.
• Communicate and interface with engineers and scientists in Product and Process Technology group and coordinate necessary support from other clusters to overcome technical challenges in customer and plant support.
• Perform regular update meetings with key stakeholders highlighting accomplishments, risks, and where additional resources are required.
• Take a leading role in solving customer issues to improve customer satisfaction and reduce customer claims. Develop customer and plant support roadmaps for Novelis. Identify competency and capability gaps and propose measures to close the gaps .
• Write Technical reports and invention records during research and support patent filing to strengthen Novelis IP position and protection.
• Monitor and improve internal customer satisfaction scores.
• Understand the business impact of CPS projects and requests.

Qualifications: 

• B.S. in Mechanical or Materials/Metallurgical Engineering with 15 years’ work experience or M.S./Ph. D. degree with 10 – 12 years’ work experience.
• Demonstrated project management skills in planning, resourcing, and execution to deliver on-time results of large and complex projects.
• First-hand experience presenting project highlights, outcomes, and setbacks to stakeholders Capacity to evaluate customer needs and pivot when goals or requirements change.
• Knowledge of aluminum alloy systems and how these systems are applied to various use scenarios, such as: auto applications or can body versus can end applications.
• Demonstrated the ability to scope the testing required from customer complaints or plant quality issues based on customer specification and requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in material characterization and product performance testing. Proven track record of providing timely support to different customers. 
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• Demonstrated project team management experience and skill.
