The Senior Process Improvement Engineer will provide support and leadership to drive process improvements in the Cold Rolling Area that will enable productivity improvements, meet OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency) targets while maintaining world class quality and safety.
Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Work with cross functional teams such as quality, engineering, maintenance, production, supply chain, safety, procurement to drive process improvements to lower the cost and increase productivity.
  • Monitor, track and report key reliability and machine efficiency metrics to identify opportunities from improvements.
  • Support the new capital requirements/projects in the area. Contribute to the identification of projects, business case development and execution of these projects to deliver on to the 5-year strategy.
  • Develop strategy and best practices to resolve frequent and infrequent issues at the production centres with multi-functional team collaborations. This will require very good understanding of the root cause problem solving process, leading kaizens, and other ABS initiatives.
  • Lead the development of the corrective actions and problem solving for issues related to equipment efficiency and par day rate improvement.
  • Support the operations at Cold Mills to ensure operations has proper work instructions to repetitively meet product specifications.
  • Ensure that the manufactured product is meeting the product specifications, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Utilize technical knowledge-base and provide advanced technical guidance to ensure there is a thorough understanding of equipment and its effect on process and product quality.
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with internal customers (such as: corporate technical resources, leadership teams, production, quality, and maintenance resources) and external suppliers to ensure process improvement needs are understood and met.
  • Work across departments and coordinate with downstream production centers to support and maintain lower WIP levels.
  • Coordinate with downstream customers as needed to ensure internal quality contracts and expectations are aligned.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical, Industrial, Ceramics or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to distill complex technical information and share with the production crews.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility is required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is NOT available for this position
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ''), Political Asylee, or Refugee
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years of experience of manufacturing processes in rolling and/or web handling.
  • Basic understanding of rolling and/or web handling
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work across departmental boundaries with cross-functional engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
  • Clear and concise communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to communicate at various levels in the organization.
  • Proficient in root cause problem solving and data analytics.

ABOUT Davenport Works
Davenport Works is the country's largest aluminum rolling mill, it was opened in 1948 and currently employs more than 2,000 people and ships product worldwide. It is in Riverdale in the Quad Cities (Davenport and Bettendorf in southeastern Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline in northwestern Illinois).
