Novelis – Davenport, IA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Process Improvement Engineer to join Novelis. The person in this role will report to the Project Leader. The Process Improvement Engineer will be responsible for providing high-level business process management expertise in process and product quality control, developing new processes/products/practices, applying statistics, and identifying and resolving customer problems, including technical service to customers.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Responsible for the business maintenance management system to include update, collaborate with external organizations and internal customers, primarily NOVI and ATL.
  • Responsible for regulatory requirements and standards certifications as required by the business unit. Primarily IATF 16949 and ISO 9001- 2015 and customer-specific requirements.
  • Plans and leads internal audit function and is responsible for planning and organization readiness for the annual registrar (SAI) and corporate audits. In addition, customer audits, surveys, and assessments as needed.
  • Responsible for document control and repository key user (EtQ).
  • Supports Process Leader and PPQ Leader on management reviews, major quality initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Incumbent completes assessments to resolve process deviations that decrease quality, utilization, and efficiency.
  • Development of process control strategy to ensure long-term product and process capability.
  • Development and implementation of projects ranging in scope from near-immediate needs to long-term central initiatives to optimize the business management system.
  • Participation in developing new products- process documentation and refinement of existing ones for end-use efficiency, manufacturing cost control, and market development.
  • Determination and elimination of the causes of quality defects, champion problem-solving methodologies with a preference on 8D's, A3, DMAIC.
  • Use WCM methodologies to resolve customer complaints and internal quality concerns. (Often involving technical assistance and advice to the customer.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field is required, minimum three years of experience in relevant Quality management system responsibility with auto industry emphasis in a large tier one organization.
  • Assignments of growing complexity and magnitude address the implementation of IATF 16949 and will normally have worked in several deployment initiatives.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization.
  • Personal traits should include using human relations skills to inspire, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives.
  • Desire to take the initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs, and fostering a collaborative relationship.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize feature work; must handle multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail.
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
  • Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant, and corporate objectives.

Location Profile

The finishing mill in Davenport opened in 1906 and employees more than 100 people. The facility cold rolls aluminum to a desired gauge anneals to temper levels coats and slits the rolled sheet to size. The facility produces mill finish coil and painted coil to serve the building and construction industry. Davenport Finishing has an active social responsibility committee that supports many organizations in the local community including Habitat for Humanity Riverbend Food Bank CASI and more. The facility also sponsors local events including their partnership with Junior Achievement in sponsoring and presenting at the Advanced Manufacturing Career Day.
