Mechanical Engineering Intern

Position Overview:

Novelis in Clayton, NJ has an opportunity to participate in our on-site summer 2024 internship. The Clayton site is a light gauge aluminum cold rolling facility. The team is seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern that can join the team for approximately 12 weeks. The person in this role will report to the EMRA Leader and will have the opportunity to participate in relevant work and gain hands on industry experience by involvement in day-to-day operations and data gathering.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Lead/support capital projects to be determined by current priorities
• Organize drawing files, including AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, and PDF’s
• Provide support for various mechanical engineering projects.
• Perform engineering drawing modifications as needed.
• Troubleshoot a variety of industrial manufacturing equipment including aluminum rolling and coating lines, mobile equipment, and annealing furnaces.
• Work under the supervision of staff engineers in various process improvement areas

Minimum Qualifications:

• Enrolled in an accredited 4-year University.
• Must be a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or recent Graduate.
• Interested in gaining hands-on industry experience prior to graduation.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills which are essential for interacting with all levels of the organization
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer students majoring in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Solid business insight
• High interest in becoming an engineering leader in a manufacturing environment
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
• Driven to learn new processes & procedures

Location Profile

Built in 1970 the Clayton facility employs more than 100 people and engages in a re-rolling and finishing operation that supplies foil and light-gauge non-heat treatable aluminum coiled sheet and products including semi-rigid formed container stock HVAC standard and automotive fin stock pharmaceutical closure stock spiral duct stock and distribution. The site is committed to supporting the local community through its ongoing volunteer initiatives promoting safety and education.
