Overview

The Associate General Counsel advises on a wide variety of legal matters arising with respect to UVA Community Health, Inc. (“UVACH”), a wholly owned subsidiary operated within the UVA Health System. Provides independent legal counsel to the executive level of UVACH and its affiliates and their respective medical staff leadership and Boards of Directors. The Associate General Counsel will be experienced in interfacing with clients and managing outside counsel and consultants and will be able to adapt to changing priorities as they arise.

• Act as primary legal counsel for employment-related (including physician and non-physician) matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating physician employment agreements, managing employment-related matters for physician and non-physician staff (e.g., employment disputes, EEOC charges, immigration matters and similar).
• Act as primary legal counsel with respect to litigation matters, including both direct matter management and coordination of approved outside counsel.
• Review and offer advice on contracts and other legal documents and transactions.
• Provides legal counsel to and serves on important UVACH committees as the legal department designee.
• Review proposed UVACH employment and related policies and changes to existing policies.
• Educate and train UVACH community about legal issues.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education: J.D degreeExperience: Ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney specializing in employment or health care law in an in-house, law firm or similar setting. Knowledge of health care laws and regulations related to physician employment, including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Law and similar laws and regulations impacting health care providers preferred.Licensure: Member in good standing of the State Bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Location: Flexible; must be located within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
