POSITION TITLE: Director of Grade School Admissions
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
REPORTS TO:Vice President of Marketing & Community Engagement
Notre Dame de Sion is seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Director of Grade School Admissions. Located in historic Hyde Park, Sion is the only independent Catholic grade school in Kansas City. Founded in 1912 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Sion, our mission is to provide an excellent education that transforms the hearts of our students and prepares them to make an impact in the world.

BASIC FUNCTION

Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Community Engagement and working with the President, Grade School Administrative Team, the Director of Grade School Admissions will lead, plan, direct and implement overall strategy for all student recruitment initiatives on behalf of the Locust Campus School. The Director will oversee and actively participate in the creation, design, budget, and production of on- and off-site recruitment efforts and events to support enrollment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of Grade School Admissions, in conjunction with the Marketing Team, will oversee the development of all advertising and publicity related to the attraction of new students and the retention of existing students. The primary objective of the Director of Grade School Admissions is to increase the school’s enrollment, with a focus on building the early childhood programming and converting Montessori families into two full kindergarten classes.. To achieve this goal, the Admissions Department will work closely with the Marketing Team, the faculty, and the Administration.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include the following:
  • To oversee all aspects of the admissions process for new students to the school and the retention of existing students.
  • To present the school to prospective students and parents, which includes systematic and efficient handling of applications and communication with students and their parents; interviews with students and their parents; arrangements for admissions testing; securing of necessary student credentials and communicating final decisions to the appropriate individuals.
  • To oversee the admission office and work with the VP of Marketing & Community Engagement in the creation of the admissions budget, and appropriate admissions and marketing materials including print, email and digital outreach, as well as development of a marketing and recruitment plan and supporting materials to attract new and transferring students.
  • Create an annual Admissions plan, in collaboration with the marketing team, based on historical data, demographic data, competitive landscape, and performance and reflections from the previous year.
  • To continually evaluate, and redesign where appropriate, all aspects of the admissions and marketing programs with the goal of maintaining a capacity enrollment of qualified students and to ultimately create a wait-list of qualified applicants.
  • To manage the re-enrollment of current students for the succeeding year.
  • To oversee the network of parents, former parents, and alumni to assist in the admissions program.
  • To keep relevant statistics on all aspects of the admission and re-enrollment program.
  • Actively participate and lead in the “life of the school” through service projects (both on-campus and in the community), Mass/prayer service, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, Sion Alliance events, mission related retreats and advancement events.
  • To represent the school at various events and conferences.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the President, VP of Marketing & Community Engagement or Grade School Principal.
  • To support the school and its leadership.
  • Participate actively in the work and success of the senior leadership team and provide support for school events and administrative jobs as requested.
  • At times, support the Director of High School Admissions for critical events on the Wornall Campus.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

The Director of Grade School Admissions will have the following types of experience and qualifications:
  • A BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Five years of increased leadership experience in Admissions, preferably in an independent school.
  • Outstanding speaking and writing skills.
  • Deep knowledge of the admissions process in schools and in using all relevant communication channels effectively for this purpose.
  • Ability to develop, monitor, and adhere to budgets and production schedules.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with shifting priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to ensure accurate reporting through our internal Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Database

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures.
  • May work at a desk or computer for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  • Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
