The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying sound accounting practices and procedures to provide day to day accounting support, assistance with month end and year end close and year end audit. Performing various monthly, quarterly and annual tasks including reports, recording and reconciling activity, accounts payable, cash, and journal entries. Ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, as well as state and federal industry regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide, and encourage all staff to provide, exemplary customer service to all residents, families, staff, vendors, and other contacts at all times
2. Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end procedures and ensure accurate and timely results including information transfer between financial software programs as necessary
3. Review and provide input on accounts payable for various entities
4. Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations
5. Review and provide input on fixed asset module and all accompanying schedules for various entities
6. Help prepare or review monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts
7. Work with external auditors and other professionals like tax and cost report preparers and vendors
8. Analyze revenue, expenses, and balance sheet accounts to ensure items are recorded appropriately and reconciled on a monthly basis
9. Work with other departments on items to improve process, timing and/or accuracy such as invoices, check requests, documentation, etc.
10. Assist with the implementation and updates of accounting related software items, like chart of accounts, financial statement updates, company updates, regulatory changes, accounting standards updates, etc.
11. Provide management reports to improve financial reporting relating to accounting items
12. Assist with financial reporting and special reports like cost reports, tax returns, financial audits, regulations/audits/reporting, IDPH reports, 1099s, etc.
13. Assist with the annual budget as necessary
14. Assist with documenting accounting policies and procedures
15. Train certain accounting team members and employees at all sites
16. Other projects and general duties as assigned
