Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team supporting the Metis program. The position is based at a facility in Aurora, Colorado.

This role designs manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Provide proposal manufacturing cost estimates, identifying skills, facilities, special equipment, tooling requirements, risk assessment, and other operating constraints.
  • Prepare Manufacturing process plan detailing how the design is converted into deliverable hardware.
  • Participate in make/buy assessments.
  • Support assigned concurrent engineering development tasks/projects. Ensure that the proposed design is producible in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner.
  • Update the Manufacturing process plan during process development activities.
  • Provide process training support and technical coordination to assure implementation of the Manufacturing Process Plan. Conduct shop floor surveillance to resolve technical problems and mitigate further problem recurrence.
  • Prepare and submit requests for engineering action when required to implement necessary product design changes.
  • Designs arrangement of workspaces within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and prototype/production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Support architecture trades, design analysis, and performance.
  • Self-starter and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

This requisition may be filled at either a level 2 or a level 3, depending on the candidate's experience as laid out in the basic qualifications detailed below as well as the interview assessment.

Basic Qualifications

Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant manufacturing engineer experience; 0 years with a Master's; 6 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have active/current DoD TS/SCI clearance or higher to be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience applying and implementing lean methodologies in manufacturing/production environments including root-cause and Ishikawa analysis.
  • Practical application of AS9100, ISO 9001-2008, AS9145 or similar quality systems
  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings and interpretation of GD&T
  • Working knowledge of mechanical assembly processes.

Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant manufacturing engineer experience; 3 years with a Master's; 0 years with a Ph.D.; 9 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have active/current DoD TS/SCI clearance or higher to be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience applying and implementing lean methodologies in manufacturing/production environments including root-cause and Ishikawa analysis.
  • Practical application of AS9100, ISO 9001-2008, AS9145 or similar quality systems
  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings and interpretation of GD&T
  • Working knowledge of mechanical assembly processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency with ERP/SAP
  • Experience in any of the following:
  • Aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of machining processes; lathe, milling, CNC programming
  • Working knowledge of composite materials and processes
  • Understanding of 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range: Level 2 = $73,600 - $110,400; Level 3 = $90,600 - $136,000
