North Homes Children & Family Services is Hiring a Peer Recovery Specialist Near Grand Rapids, MN

Description

Under the direction of the Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Program Director and Clinical Supervisor, the peer recovery specialist is responsible for providing a continuum of services to individuals seeking support. From a strength’s-based, holistic, client-centered framework, the successful candidate will work with individuals in a non-clinical role throughout the entire spectrum of mental health and substance use disorder services, as well as advocate, provide resources, advice, and insight to persons seeking support to holistically bolster their recovery efforts. Peer recovery specialists provide the link between clients and therapeutic, clinical care, and service coordination. They provide supportive, resourceful assistance in an avenue of service designed to promote long-term recovery. The peer recovery specialist will also work in supporting and aiding people in identifying, coordination, planning, and executing all avenues of potential recovery efforts.

The Peer Recovery Specialist job duties include, but are not limited to;

  • Working directly with individuals and families to advocate, provide support, insight, wisdom, knowledge, and guidance to those seeking recovery from substance use disorder and/or mental health disorders.
  • Provide recovery support and recovery coaching meetings.
  • The Peer Recovery Specialist will adhere to all applicable HIPAA requirements and confidentiality guidelines and laws to protect client confidentiality.
  • Work with individuals on identifying values, strength’s, goals, pursuing appropriate services to increase recovery efforts.
  • Understand and provide knowledge and guidance to individuals and families regarding the recovery process.
  • Aid in procurement of basic physiological needs if applicable (food, shelter, water, warmth).
  • Be an accessible resource for the individual while they navigate the journey of recovery in an effort to reach their full potential.
  • Aid clients in recognizing and filling gaps in services and skills that may hinder chances at successful recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director or Clinical Supervisor.

Requirements

The Peer Recovery Specialist qualifications are;

  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Have a minimum of one (1) year in recovery from substance use disorder (SUD)
  • Be a current or former consumer of mental health services
  • Hold a current credential from the Minnesota Certification Board for Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CRPS)
  • Receive ongoing supervision in areas specific to the domains of Peer Recovery Specialist’s role by an alcohol and drug counselor
  • Demonstrate ability to be a person-centered advocate for peers seeking recovery, and model recovery-based behaviors during interactions with individuals, families, and groups.
