JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Youth Development Coordinator ensures that youth with foster care experience enter adulthood with the necessary supports to build productive and fulfilling lives. Using a strengths-based and youth-driven approach, the program promotes well-being across the following domains: housing, education, employment, social connections, transportation, health, enrichment, and basic needs. The Youth Development Program also offers participating youth with access to leadership, advocacy, and training opportunities to ensure that the foster care system is informed by and responsive to the youth who are served by it.

The Youth Development Coordinator works closely with DCF workers, foster parents, other direct service providers, community partners and a number of colleagues providing Youth Development Program services throughout VT.

The position is responsible for direct case management for approximately 25 youth (15 yrs. - 21 yrs.) The Youth Development Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring that the program meets and exceeds performance targets, submits all required reporting and data elements on time and operates within an established budget.

The Youth Development Coordinator will receive ample internal support and training. The candidate will be joining an engaging team of youth care professionals serving youth throughout the district and will represent program efforts at statewide gatherings of Youth Development Program staff from around the state. The position is full time at 40 hours/week and will hold an office in Newport but will be expected to travel throughout the Orleans County / Northern Essex County district in an effort to meet youth in their communities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with youth, self-motivated and will possess excellent case-management and administrative skills.

• Demonstrate competency in all five areas of NEKCAs Core Values. Demonstrate respect for all NEKCA clients, the choices they make and the challenges they face. 
• Provide strengths-based case management to an active caseload of current and former foster youth in Orleans County
• Maintain a caseload of approximately 25 youth.
• Collaborate with Family Service Workers through the Department for Children and Families, other Youth Development Coordinators throughout the state, the statewide YDP administrative team, and community partners.
• Demonstrate understanding of all aspects of program implementation.
• Manage program reporting and data collection.

Requirements

• Must comply with NEKCA policies if hired
• Staff will be required to authorize and pass NEKCA’s criminal record check process 
• Lived experience in foster care or other systems-involvement preferred 
• B.A. or equivalent experience in human services field 
• Ability to approach clients, community partners, and co-workers with professionalism, empathy, and respect 
• Strong skill set in relationship-building, which will be applied to direct service with youth and through collaboration with community and state partners 
• Ability to manage, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks
• Ability to balance direct service obligations with administrative tasks like maintaining case notes and collecting data 
• Experience with and/or openness to adopt a strengths-based, youth-driven approach 
• Competence in the use of technology, including applications like Microsoft Word and virtual platforms like Zoom 
• Access to reliable transportation 
• This position is considered a mandated reporter
