JOB TITLE: General Ledger Accountant

LOCATION: Newport or St. Johnsbury

FULL-TIME/PART-TIME/SITE BASED/HOME BASED: Full-Time

HOURS PER WEEK/WEEKS PER YEAR: 40 / 52

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Permanent

Position is grant funded for one year, with possibility for renewed employment.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for general ledger allocations, including building, supplies, IT, etc.
  • Maintain fixed asset listing and prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Prepares monthly financial reports.
  • Records entries related to payroll, revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare journal entries for all grant accounting, including recognition of revenue and receivables as appropriate.
  • Submit Medicaid billings and ensure data received is complete and timely.
  • Ensure compliance with OMB circulars applicable to nonprofit organization, such as the "Super Circular". Assist with the development and updating of allocation of indirect costs in accordance with methodology defined in applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Prepare allocation entries for space, technology, building and supplies costs to appropriate programs.
  • Maintain allocation % and programs for each allocation type.
  • Perform advanced level work requiring the analysis, interpretation and audit of fiscal and grant data.
  • Conduct financial accounting, reporting and reconciliation.
  • Analyze budget spending rates; forecast year-end expenditures and fulfill financial reporting requirements.
  • Versatility to engage in other elements of the finance operation including financial and data analysis, reporting and planning.

Requirements

  • Must comply with NEKCA policies if hired.
  • Required to authorize and pass NEKCA criminal background check process
  • Staff is required to be completely vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to starting position
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or 3 years in progressively responsible accounting/financial roles
  • Highly competent technology skills including MS Office - (Excel, Word);
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative on defining and completing projects independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work well under deadline pressures without sacrificing accuracy or customer service.
  • Ability to handle a complex portfolio of work in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Prior demonstrated skills to set priorities and to handle multiple assignments.
  • Solution-focused and adept at overcoming barriers.
  • Preferred skills include experience with accounting financial software and previous non-profit experience.
