North Country HealthCare AZ is Hiring a Remote Interpreter (Dental Clinic)(Flagstaff)(Non-Remote Position)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Under the supervision of the designated clinic manager, the employee serves as a qualified interpreter for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients and staff and supports the operations of the department, in the consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes. Relays medical information and conveys the message between speakers of two different languages in compliance with all office and company policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent, passing performance of competencies listed in the Code of Ethics. In addition, they comply with laws, regulations, and policies in accordance with healthcare interpreting practices (see National Council on Interpreting in Health Care Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primarily function as verbal conduit between LEP patients and staff, interpreting with highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes, selecting appropriate mode of interpretation for each situation, secondly as clarifier, cultural liaison, and/or patient advocate, as appropriate.
  • Promote awareness among staff and LEP patients of duties, requirements, protocol, ethics and standards of practice in health care interpreting to support quality interpretation services.
  • Maintains proven superior fluency of English and other language(s), understanding variety of regional accents and linguistic styles and registers, in-depth, cultural awareness competencies, of these languages as well as medical terminology and medical systems particularly relevant to their work environments.
  • Utilize computer software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and other clinical programs.
  • Actively pursues continuous professional development through a recognized educational institution or training program relevant to the interpreter profession.
  • Assists other NCHC team members, from all departments, when needed. This duty is performed weekly.
  • Participates in meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English language in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance. Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively and cope in a healthy way with job stress.
  • Participates in training of new staff - demonstrates supervisory capacity or already has supervisory experience.
  • Helps to build a team oriented setting.
  • Participates in clinic or corporate projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Spanish language proficiency required. Previous training/experience in Medical Interpreting preferred. Such that proves they can 1. Adhere to generally accepted interpreter ethics principles, including client confidentiality; 2. Demonstrate proficiency in speaking and understanding both spoken English and at least one other spoken language; 3. Interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptively and expressly, to and from such language(s) and English, using any necessary specialized vocabulary, terminology and phraseology.
