Overview

We have Endoscopy Services at both the Porter and Healthplex Campuses. The Porter Campus has four endoscopy rooms and one eye laser room. One endoscopy room is equipped for both general anesthesia and fluoroscopy. The Healthplex Campus has one endoscopy room equipped for general anesthesia. Both campuses have travel carts available for procedures outside of the department including OR, ER, and ICU. Our services encompass anything done via endoscope including GI, Pulmonary, and Urology. We also assist in special procedures including pain management, eye lasers, bone marrow aspiration, and prostate biopsies.

Responsibilities

Our Endoscopy Surgical Technologists demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, autonomy, and critical thinking skills. Surgical Technologist responsibilities include assisting physicians during procedures, procedure room set up, and turnover. They are also responsible for the manual cleaning and high level disinfection of all endoscopes used at both Porter and Healthplex Campuses as well as the upkeep of high level disinfection equipment and logs. We orient new technicians to all services at both campuses. Orientation usually lasts three to four months with an assigned preceptor. Call will consist of buddy call and/or back up until orientation is complete.

• Processes equipment and supplies, prepares procedures rooms, orders and stocks unit supplies, and assists medical staff with procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Participation in accredited Surgical Technologist program preferred.

EXPERIENCE

• 6 months of recent patient care tech or nurse assistant experience preferred.

(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

• Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
