The manufacturing engineer develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommends and implements improvements to production and assembly processes, methods and controls. This position requires you to work as part of a team responsible to support timely project implementations. Effectively manages multiple work requests and balances priorities to complete assigned tasks. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement in day to day activities. Responsibilities Operations – 40% - 60% Improves manufacturing processes and methods for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and inventory. Performs research, design and development of basic manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment. Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies basic tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods. Performs basic product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and improved efficiency. Interacts with shop floor personnel and with engineering and manufacturing to ensure lean plans are created and implemented. Communicates with design engineers to ensure correct interpretation of design documentation Implements basic tooling improvements by identifying and acting on opportunities to improve quality and reduce manufacturing expenses and waste. Designs and oversees construction of basic tooling, fixtures and assembly aids Serves as an internal resource and participant to operations improvement projects Incorporate engineering specifications into design, process, or techniques and provide feedback to capture lessons learned Plans (work breakdown and task schedule) and leads basic/routine projects. Develops and maintains manufacturing process of documentation including work instructions and standard work Conducts basic cell design including material flow, visual factory, and pull systems Works with other engineers to ensure all product and system requirements are taken into account from the initial product conception to the finished result. Leadership – 20% - 40% Leads projects independently to completion, often times with little direct authority Uses experience and process improvement skills to identify and implement continuous improvement activities Supports plant management in identifying and removing obstacles that impact the lean transformation. Lean experience: Kaizen event leadership/participation and rapid cycle improvement, process analysis, Process management, 6S, lean office, lean leadership, etc. General – 20% - 40% Adheres to all company Policies and Procedures and actively promotes continuous improvement and its activities and services to others. Keeps current with personal development of continuous improvement skills Develops trusted, respected relationships with others. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (IE, ME, MFG) and or equivalent relevant work experience Experience Minimum of 0-3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing setting Technical Skills CAD proficiency. Prefer experience with Pro-E. Strong MS Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Vizio, Access, and Teams Travel Minimal Working Conditions Work is primarily light duty and requires the ability to regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. This position requires the ability to sit, stand and walk unassisted. Requires the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is required to talk and hear.
