Nonprofit HR is Hiring a HR Generalist Near New York, NY

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing human resources (HR)-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Director of Human Resources to ensure smooth daily operations of the HR department. S/he will independently perform responsibilities and provide support, as appropriate, on staffing, recruitment, on-boarding, employee engagement, compensation and benefits administration, compliance, and HRIS management.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to employment information, assistance, and employee relations issues, escalating issues and requests as appropriate.

  • Manage the recruitment process for entry to mid-level positions; draft job descriptions and position announcements; meet with Institute’s hiring managers to clarify qualifications and screening criteria and staffing needs in advance of required start date.

  • Search, screen and identify top skills; qualified candidates, ensure compliance with pre-employment screening processes and qualifications for all hires.

  • Lead recruitment efforts that include web-based job boards, social media and other posting outlets and ensure all positions are posted internally and externally and places advertising in compliance with local, Federal, and State guidelines. 

  • Manages internet recruiting accounts and pre-employment testing services.

  • Implement onboarding and off boarding processes for new hires.

  • Analyze HRIS reports to track employment/ hiring statistics such as vacancy, turnover, time-to-fill, etc.

  • Recommends improvements for employee retention.

  • Manages DEI and EEO activities including but not limited to ATS tracking of all recruitment activities, external hiring, and internal transfers/promotions to ensure complete, auditable information that follows government regulations is on file. 

  • Assist in completing compliance reporting (i.e., EEO-1 reports), census reports and external salary and benefit surveys

  • Makes recommendations regarding recruitment programs and budgets that will attract applicants and to fill specific job openings.

  • Schedules and conducts interviews with candidates via MS Outlook, Zoom, Teams and in person when necessary

  • Performs checks on potential applicants prior to and after all accepted offer of employment(s).

  • Responds in writing to all applicants including declined candidates, prepares offer letters, wage notices and maintains applicant records.

  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise

  • Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies

  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.

  • Conduct initial applicant screen and present applicants to hiring managers for consideration, conduct interviews, reference checks and background checks for selected candidates.

  • Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, determine competitive salary offers for open positions; upon approval from hiring manager, communicate and negotiate offers of employment.

  • In partnership with the Director of Human Resources administrator with benefit plans for enrollment, off boarding and compliance. Assist with open enrollment activities.

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Conduct new employee orientation and exit interviews; compile feedback, analyze responses to assist with employee development, retention, and engagement.

  • Manage the department’s HRIS system, ADP Workforce Now; act as first point of contact for issues relating to the HRIS; conduct audits, run routine and ad hoc reports, troubleshoot problems, and maintain integrity of the data housed in the system.

  • Assists in the preparation and processing of departmental billing/ invoices.

  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Human Resources and VP of Finance and Administration. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Passion for and experience with work to advance sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice

  • Strong organizational and project management skills and computer skills to help achieve their goals/deadlines

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with all levels of staff; must demonstrate initiative and good judgment. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Proficiency managing and using an HRIS; experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience recruiting and staffing in the non-profit sector.

  • Knowledge of MS Office and ADP-WFN HRIS systems. Experience in data entry and database systems a plus.

  • Experience with professional job boards and recruiting software such as Indeed, Monster, LinkedIn

  • Knowledge of HR Programs to help create efficiencies and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and familiarity with COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and related state and federal regulations required, including payroll regulations, policies, and procedures a plus.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, accuracy, attention to detail, and monitors own work to ensure quality.

  • Ability to appropriately handle and process confidential and sensitive information.

  • Seven years of relevant experience in Human Resources or related degree in Human Resources required.

  • Strong and effective time management skills.

  • Highly dependable and punctual.

  • Ability to travel to meetings and to the DC office on occasion.

Salary and benefits:

Salary starting at $74,699 to $83,464, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits that include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; vacation, personal and sick time, paid parental leave; tuition reimbursement; commuting subsidy; and 401(k) with employer match.
