The purpose of the Electrical Engineer is to be actively involved in the relaying of critical information between Engineering and Production. The Electrical Engineer must have strong electrical wiring and troubleshooting experience and have the ability to take direction from and collaborate with Engineers, other Designers, Drafters, and Production staff in an efficient team environment. They are responsible for creating accurate, sensible, and consistent electrical schematics within set timelines to enable Production to succeed in producing specialty vehicles to the level of precision and functionality engineered by the Engineering team.

Essential Functions / Responsibility:

  • Create Production-ready electrical schematics based on information from Engineering drawings, Specs&PN, and other sources as needed.
  • Create &/or use standard drawing templates for consistency, error reduction, and speed in the production of schematics. Use Electra software to create schematics.
  • Maintain an electronic database (Excel or similar) to track components, available wire, etc.
  • Produce calculations to track loads on each wire, and the entire vehicle, to assist with the correct sizing of generators, shore power, etc.
  • Balance loads to each line.
  • Correctly size all wires, fuses, breakers, loads, etc. Correctly label all wires.
  • Communicate with Engineering to identify and resolve differences between Electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, and Specs&PN.
  • Communicate requirements for customized equipment to vendors, and work effectively with the Purchasing Department to get items ordered promptly.
  • Create Excel-based spreadsheets to generate BOMs for electrical components.
  • Assist Engineering in gathering critical information required to correctly wire the final product.
  • Assist Engineering in selecting new products, and recommending new or improved products.
  • Work with Production to answer questions and demonstrate how the wiring should be installed.
  • Working with Production to ensure that wiring schematics are accurate and useful. Implementing improvements as needed to the electrical schematics process.
  • Daily track and record work hours for each specific project.
  • Willing, on a very limited basis, to travel as needed by Management.
  • Other duties may be assigned by Management.

Basic Knowledge Desired:

  • Understands the significance of the Nomad Core Values and display a demonstrated willingness to apply them to your work.
  • Must be comfortable and knowledgeable with using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook). Abilities with Microsoft Access are also helpful.
  • Understanding of electrical loads, fuses, wire capacities, resistors, diodes, relays, etc.
  • NEC – Knowledge of National Electric Code. At a minimum, how to access code, and how to find information within the code.
  • Able to provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, or equipment are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote the protection of people, data, property, and institutions to always promote a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge to be able to operate a variety of current tools to include, but not limit to capacitance meters, electronic measuring probes, frequency analyzers, frequency counters or time or dividers, microcontrollers, multi-meters, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, personal computers, plotter printers, power meters, signal generators, soldering iron, voltage or current meters, crimpers, hand tools, data-loggers, design software.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is required to be able to sit for the majority of their workday.
  • The employee must also be able to talk and hear.
  • The employee will be required to intermittently work with Production and therefore must be able to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish colors.

Working Environment:

  • The work environment is a controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the manufacturing/production floor.
  • Safety equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, etc., must be work when entering the Production floor at all times.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable work history as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Solidworks Electrical experience or equivalent is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED acquired, Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable work history as an Electrical Engineer, or equivalent occupation.
