Hours: PRN Hours: 6am-4pm, Monday through Friday

Duties:

• Perform all routine respiratory therapy treatment to patients such as oxygen and aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, suction and sputum induction, and pulmonary function testing. Perform pulmonary function tests including lung volumes, and exercise testing. Performs other testing and duties as necessary within the scope of practice of a Respiratory Therapist and to meet the needs of FMC Fort Worth inmates.
• Monitor patients for adverse reaction, independently take corrective action.
• Assess the effectiveness of therapy being administered. Maintains records and documentation of all therapies and procedures performed in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
• Clean and maintain department areas and equipment including disinfecting of work area.
• Provide information to patients concerning home care such as use of oxygen equipment and instruction of proper technique for administering handheld nebulizer treatments, Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs) and peak flow measurements. Perform maintenance as able on Durable Medical Equipment to include but not limited to Oxygen Concentrators.
• Perform airway care on inmates including suctioning and securing endotracheal tube and tracheostomies, cuff pressure monitoring, chest physical therapy, chest examinations, and placement of the endotracheal tube as necessary.
• Maintains clinical and professional competency based upon established standards of practice.
• General administrative duties, including answering the phone, pulling, filing and copying medical records, requesting and scanning medical records, data collection/organization, and maintaining supplies/equipment in patient care areas.

Requirements:

1. Employee must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapist program and maintain the appropriate certification/licensure for a Respiratory Therapist.
2. A candidate with at least six months of experience is preferred.
3. Shall provide a certified or photo static copy of their current license.
4. Must be Health Care Provider Basic Life Saver (BLS) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
