MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Equipment offerings include complete coil feed lines, servo roll feeds, powered straighteners, coil reels, coil cradles and air feeds. CHS Automation's 45,000 square ft. main facility in Macomb, MI houses mechanical/electrical engineering, CNC machining, assembly and a crew of experienced technicians.

Job Description: Responsible for the mechanical design, component and material specification, 3D modeling, detail drawing and BOM creation for coil processing equipment used in the metal forming industry.

SCOPE OF WORK / REQUIREMENTS

  • Work with sales, project management and vendors to configure and modify standard machinery to meet customer requirements using both 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material.
  • Must be detail oriented in design/job release to manufacturing.
  • Develop line layouts based on proposed and final machinery design.
  • Create drawings for use in manuals and troubleshooting guides.
  • Must design components in a cost-conscious manner and strive to reduce cost on existing components and/or assemblies.
  • Work with assembly and manufacturing to solve problems and institute corrections.
  • Must be flexible with responsibilities / projects / duties as these may change daily based on workload.
  • Collaborate with shop to reduce manufacturing and assembly hours.
  • Logical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, focused on providing solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Multi-tasking, strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Travel is rare. Possibly a few times per year.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement process
  • Follows all safety protocols; works with safety first in mind.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Two or four year mechanical engineering degree is required. 3 years of related work experience is desired.
  • CAD experience required in creating 3D parts, assemblies and 2D drawings.
  • SOLIDWORKS experience is a preferred. Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience in machine design and build is desired.
  • Experience with Hydraulic and Pneumatic system design is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products.
  • Stamping and press room knowledge is a plus.
