About this Position / Responsibilities

Position Summary:Performs technical information services work in administering the Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). The work includes setting up, maintaining, and upgrading LANs, monitoring computer networks for security threats or unauthorized users, and providing training to users in the use of the LAN equipment, computers, and computer security systems. Experienced workers initiate their own daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.

Position Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

• Maintains Microsoft Windows servers and Cisco network equipment. Install, configure, and troubleshoot servers and network equipment. Properly maintain documentation including error logs, equipment inventory and warranty information. Maintains LAN/WAN environment.
• Maintains e-mail, active directory and back up for all servers, data on workstations, and any other back up requirements.
• Maintains and administers perimeter security systems such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.Upgrades software with new versions. Provides software distribution to personal computers (PCs) and servers through network policy.
• Maintains and administers telecommunications hardware, software, and other network equipment.Troubleshoots user problems to include login issues, print problems, internet, e-mail, and network issues. Performs add/change/remove for end users.
• Research new products to include hardware and software. Provide security management for the LAN/WAN environment.
• Protects LAN/WAN operating systems and PC operating systems.
• Provides user education and training concerning computers, networks, security, applications, and procedures as they relate to information technology.
• Repairs\updates network hardware, servers, PCs, and laptops as needed.
• Provides telecommunications support including switch management, voicemail management, cell/smartphone management, and synchronization.

• Essential Skills and Experience:Knowledge of the principles, concepts and practices of information system technology as applied to the requirements of the Authority's LAN/WAN environment; computer software and hardware operations and equipment (peripherals); principles and practices of computer hardware de-bugging and other troubleshooting procedures; Local and Wide Area Network concepts and protocols, wiring, hubs, routers, and network operating systems installation, maintenance and monitoring; principles, techniques, and current developments in information technology; principles and practices of network administration and data communications; principles and practices of customer service; modern officeprocedures; operate computer equipment and software applications related to assignment; English usage, spelling and grammar.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of experience working with networks and/or servers with solid understanding of TCP/IP and network security.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking, Active Directory, and security infrastructure (Firewalls, IDS/IPS, IPsec, VPNs).
• At least 3 years of experience in the installation, use and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and related peripherals in a LAN/WAN environment.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• Current Microsoft Windows Server Certification (or equivalent) or the VMware Certified
• Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
