NEWSDAY is Hiring a Social Media Producer Near Melville, NY

Summary of Position Writes, produces, and analyzes daily content for our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter social media platforms. The producer collaborates with the newsroom, video editors, reporters, and digital team to brainstorm and create content that helps the strategy made for each platform. This individual also produces video content for those verticals. Essential Duties & Functions Responsible for independently writing engaging daily posts that go out live to over 1 million followers on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The candidate must ensure that the posts reflect the voice and mission of Newsday. Know the latest trends and what’s important and interesting to younger and diverse local audiences and how Newsday can localize them to reach Long Islanders Curate and draft strategies to guide social media efforts for each platform including serial content such as Top Stories of the Day, Newsletter promotions and personality-driven Instagram Reels Orchestrate social coverage for assigned sections, such as: breaking news, entertainment/lifestyle, sports/HS sports, opinion and food Plan social-first editorial strategies, as well as custom content for visual platforms like Facebook videos and Instagram. Collaborate with editors to optimize headlines and descriptions to be better suited for social Analyze metrics and draft reports that will be presented to departments throughout the newsroom. Run breaking news events across social media, including live tweeting and Facebook Live. Train and work closely with reporters and guide them through shoots in the field. Establish and share best practices of social media across the organization. Produce social-first videos and brainstorms ideas that are engaging for each platform, on such topics as food, Long Island activities, etc. This includes live videos on Facebook and Instagram, which are done independently and published with no editing. Conduct interviews on camera with local officials, activists and small business owners and serve as a hosting personality Work with reporters and video team to create long- and short-form content. Cover live events across platforms such as national and local elections, protests, court sentencings, etc. Essential Job Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications or related field. 1-2 years of previous experience in social media in a newsroom setting Experience producing and editing videos in programs, such as Adobe Premiere. Proficiency with all social media platforms, with a passion for social Knows how to engage with a local audience, such as through Facebook Groups, subreddits, community groups, etc. The ideal candidate is an in-the-know, diligent and flexible journalist who lives and breathes social media 24/7. Must be comfortable and articulate presenting on camera in both live and prepared settings. Sharp writing skills and solid copy-editing skills Strong analytical skills to respond to data in real time and help guide our social media strategy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills The ability to work independently and an ability to work a flexible and varied schedule to include weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed to support business needs. Reliable transportation to and from various locations across Long Island. Physical Requirements Must possess a driver’s license in good standing and a means to travel to various locations throughout Long Island.
