Prospect Researcher I (Development) Work Location: Madison, WI - National Office Schedule: Part time To advance the purpose of InterVarsity, this position will provide insight regarding donors' backgrounds, past giving histories, wealth indicators, and philanthropic ability and motivations. This position will evaluate a prospect's ability to give (capacity), willingness to give (propensity), and potential interest in giving to InterVarsity (affinity). This information is obtained through research, reporting, analysis, and data collection. The research provided by the Prospect Research team will enable the rest of the Development team to see the very best prospects who could support InterVarsity's ministry. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Personal:
Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world

Be able to articulate a holistic sense of God's purposes for the world
Provide Research for the Development Team:
Research individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of sources. Analyze and synthesize collected information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and connection to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
Recommend specific prospects and donors to others on the Development team
Provide proactive leadership in conducting regular portfolio reviews for all members of the Development team
Produce written profiles and update Biographies which clearly and accurately synthesize information from multiple sources in a clear and coherent manner
Perform proactive research to identify new potential prospects from within the database as well as from outside the organization's natural constituency (unaffiliated)
Identify like-minded individuals/organizations and points of connection by monitoring news stories, Google/Advanced research techniques and daily news screenings and/or push technology/alerts
Evaluate and validate discoveries and present qualified prospects to Development staff to determine appropriate assignments
Assist in the development, maintenance, and documentation of a capacity rating methodology customized to InterVarsity's needs and resources and train Development staff to understand and utilize these ratings for prospect prioritization and strategic planning
Record all research information in Salesforce in a consistent and uniform manner
Review contact reports to extract and record in the database any new prospect data
Summarize key findings and make actionable recommendations related to prospects and current donors
Employ knowledge of moves management concepts to provide appropriate support to the Development team in each stage
Support the Development team in capturing moves management data (review contact reports, prospect strategy meetings, etc.)
Analyze and segment constituent pools for development purposes
Provide Salesforce training to gift officers/staff related to Activty Logs, Future Gifts, Opportunities, Campaigns, and other Salesforce objects
Document tools used and Frequently Asked Questions and Solutions when producing reports
Stay current with the trends in Prospect Development
Be mindful of and follow Biblical and generally accepted research codes of ethics for use of data, research, information, and reports
Conduct regular audit reports
Perform other duties as assigned
Ministry Partnership Development:
With support and training, develop a personal support team for prayer and financial support through visits, phone calls, and regular prayer letters
Raise a minimum of 10% financial support annually
Foster a collective Development team environment :
Be a contributing member of the Prospect Development Team and Development Team meetings
Attend and be a contributing member of the Development and NSC Community meetings and gatherings
Attend and work InterVarsity events as assigned (Urbana, National Staff Conference, Guest Programs, etc)
Other responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Annually affirm InterVarsity's Statement of Faith
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of two years of service in institutional advancement/development, preferably in the area of prospect research and/or major gifts
Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical and research skills
Strong proficiency in locating relevant information in a variety of formats including digital, print copy, telephone calls, and conversations and consolidating it in a well-organized report format
Understanding of statistics and analysis strongly preferred
Critical thinking, good judgment, and impeccable attention to detail is critical
Detail oriented and ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amounts of information
Experience with InterVarsity and/or other campus college ministries preferred
Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement member preferred
Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently without close supervision
Ability to hold matters in confidence and to handle confidential information with integrity
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines
Must be a creative and curious person with a high level of persistence. Able to search out information in innovative ways
Effective oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel is required. Additional experience with Salesforce is preferred.
Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment

Willingness to travel occasionally and infrequently
