The Product Development Chemist is responsible for providing technical support to NewAge’s internal and external customers by demonstrating high technical aptitude and a passion for problem solving. This individual thrives in a cross-functional working environment and has a strong desire to work with multiple stakeholders. He/she can manage the technical aspects of the Product Life Cycle of various extruded, molded, and assembled products including, but not limited to, development of claims, specifications and assisting with customer support. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Partner with product management and sales teams to identify and assess new research areas for value creation within a business.
• Explore new products, applications and platforms through patent landscape analysis, fundamental understanding, experiment design, data analysis, and result interpretation
• Assist with the development of next-generation materials / products across the company portfolio for life science and industrial markets.
• Perform experimental, scientific, and technological investigations directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge (i.e., technical scouting and feasibility).
• Prepare documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, and protocols
• Support customers with technical assistance in industrial and life science applications.
• Assist engineering and manufacturing with troubleshooting material issues.
• Create and present technical presentations at company meetings, technical conferences, and customer/partner facilities
• Promote a strong safety culture required for a safe working environment.
• Travel and frequent customer contact to support assigned products may be required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Materials, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical discipline. Master’s or PhD preferred
• 5 years of experience in the development of thermoplastic and silicone products and their associated processing technologies such as extrusion and molding (experience in flexible PVC and silicone is a plus) for life science industries
• Strong knowledge of polymer processes for manufacturing such as extrusion, injection molding, bonding etc. preferred
• Knowledge of small molecule and polymer analytical techniques and spectroscopic methods (including NMR, FT-IR, GC, GC/MS, LC-MS, DSC, TGA, XRF, etc.) preferred
• Familiarity with quality and regulatory for life science industries required
• Training or experience on the design of experiments and risk assessments
• Project management skills in a cross functional environment
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with co-workers and supervisors
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
• Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams and leading without direct authority
• Pays attention to detail and ensures high quality work
