New York Tech’s Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness seeks a Research and Assessment Analyst located at the Long Island (Old Westbury, NY) campus. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and will perform research and data analysis required to support academic program review and continuous program improvement (CPI) needed to meet professional and regional accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to collect and analyze institutional data from multiple sources (internal and external benchmark) into accurate, actionable information to support program review and continuous program improvement (CPI) process.
  • Create and maintain interactive institutional survey dashboard in Tableau or Power BI, and provide training for users.
  • Manage live data systems to ensure data flow, accuracy, and accessibility to the institutional, academic and student support units.
  • Conduct research studies on the issues of special interest.
  • Use database query languages, SQL and Oracle, to retrieve, clean, and merge data from multiple sources. Use statistical analytical tools (such as SPSS, SAS, Excel, R or others) to analyze data and disseminate results in BI, tableau or other user-friendly visual format.
  • Design and implement survey research as needed for academic programs, including identification of target populations, sampling, and procedures to implement it, and statistical analysis and visualization of the survey results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in applied mathematics and statistics, higher education, or related field
  • 2-4 years’ experience in institutional research and educational effectiveness assessment or related higher education experience.
  • Strong analytical and database skills, including student outcome models, research design, database normalization and statistical techniques, and manipulating large data sets.
  • Strong project management and communication skills, including ability to work across different functional areas.
  • Business analytics, i.e., writing SQL queries of student information systems, i.e. PeopleSoft, and using Excel, R, Python or SPSS to conduct statistical analysis, is required.
  • Ability to learn and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Data visualization techniques (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Statistical proficiency in statistical platforms like SPSS, R, or Python
  • Proficiency with MS Excel including query functions and pivot tables.
  • Experience with survey platforms (SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of survey best practices, research design, qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills
