Requirements: As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year. Our in-store positions are likely to include evening and weekend shifts per the needs of the business.

About the role: Assists with the coordination, execution and oversight of Front End operations and work. Operates cash register, processes and bags customer orders and performs carry-outs. Responsible for till reconciliation and bank deposits. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

  • Observes all company rules and policies. Understands and complies with specific department or location guidelines, tasks and responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees department in the absence of department management team.
  • Guides the work of department clerks, including daily planning and assigning of work, ensuring quality standards, training and coaching staff and overseeing their productivity. Adapts approach for different learning styles among staff.
  • Responsible daily department communication prior to each shift; produce codes, additions to Front End (FE) journal, changes to processes and any other information pertaining to department operations.
  • Cashiers and bags customer purchases; performs carry-outs as needed.
  • Partners with management to maintain excellent department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, staffing and service levels. Includes general upkeep and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Coordinates coverage to ensure consistent service levels; runs line chart ensuring that all FE staff receive breaks and lunches, calls for back-up as needed and responds to account for call-outs. 
  • Ensures department follows cash handling and register operations. Processes returns per policy and assists cashiers with complex returns.
  • Maintains adequate supply of cash. Sells change as needed throughout the day. Maintains FE bank per department guidelines. Prepares daily bank deposits and cash/coin order with accuracy. 
  • Performs tasks associated with period end, including safe audit and other money-handling tasks as assigned.
  • Ensures department complies with alcohol sales regulations.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
  • Assists with the maintenance of FE Resource Guide to ensure cashier accuracy.
  • May assist management in other activities, such as scheduling, hiring and performance reviews.
  • Maintains awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays and events. Plans for weekly ads, events and holidays using tools and reports. 
  • Tools and Equipment Used (not all inclusive): This position may be required to use the following tools and equipment: baler, hand truck, POS, industrial kitchen equipment (i.e. blast chiller, grill, knives/blades, oven, grills, scales, etc.), basic housekeeping / janitorial and standard office equipment. 
  • This position works at a Medium level. Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout shift. Sitting seldom required.
  • Continuously required to: lift 1-10 pounds; push/pull 1-10 pounds; use arms, hands and wrists; grasping/squeezing
  • Frequently required to: lift 11-20 pounds; twist; reach below shoulder
  • Occasionally required to: carry 1-50 pounds; push/pull 11-20 pounds; bend/stoop; crouch/squat; reach at/above shoulder
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

What you Bring as a Candidate: 

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of retail Front End Departments / Lead Cashier experience highly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience highly preferred. 
  • Entry level to high level proficiency with MS Office. Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software required. 

Physical and Environmental Work Space: Work occurs in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that can be wet and slippery, moderate noise level, and temperature extremes in controlled environments in the cooler and freezer, and depending on location, working outside in all temperatures. There may be exposure to certain allergens and / or chemicals.   • Notifies department manager or Manager on Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store. 
Facilities, Sanitation, Work Safety and Food Safety
  • Adheres to work and food safety policies set forth by the company and regulatory agencies.
  • Performs janitorial tasks in compliance with sanitation standards established by store policy and state and local health departments. Contributes to store cleanliness.
  • Maintains equipment, informs store/department management of any problems. 
  • Reports all safety concerns and work related injuries to management. 
  • Frequent handwashing is required.
Tools and Equipment Used
This position may be required to use the following tools and equipment: box knife, baler, scanner, ladder, cart, hand truck, price gun, POS, conveyer belt, vacuum, floor cleaning machine, computer, and office equipment

Qualifications and Experience
  • 2 years of cashiering experience required.
  • Prior retail / customer service experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic math and computation skills required.
  • Friendly and customer service oriented, with a demonstrated knowledge of cash handling required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint, with skills to learn new computer programs and systems.
  • Skills to collaborate and communicate effectively and professionally in a team environment and one on one with coworkers, supervisors and customers.

  • There may be exposure to dust, mold, gluten, fragrances and other fumes and airborne particles, fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants, and flowers.
  • Work requires use of and working in proximity to common commercial cleaning agents. 
  • This position works on or around moving machinery or moving parts.
