NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC is Hiring a Director of Business Development Near Boston, MA

NEC pushes the boundaries of making and teaching music through college-level musical training in classical, jazz, and Contemporary Improvisation. It offers unique interdisciplinary programs such as Entrepreneurial Musicianship and Community Performances & Partnerships that empower students to create their own musical opportunities. JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Business Relations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of NEC's allocation and use of its facilities. The director is responsible for formulating innovative plans to leverage rental opportunities of NEC's facilities, and collaborates with staff in program assessment and development. The director will also focus on building and nurturing partnerships, keeping customer service a top priority. The director will be accountable for direct reports and will report directly to the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer. 

NEC is seeking a dynamic, innovative leader with strong initiative, who possesses robust business development skills and experience in building a business development foundation. Candidates should have the capacity to quickly understand the academic and Boston markets, analytical insight, and excellent communication skills. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of achieving revenue targets and possess the interpersonal skills necessary to build strong working relationships with diverse teams. The ideal candidate will bring an entrepreneurial mindset. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Identify opportunities within the institution to leverage as new sources of revenue, including, but not limited to, internal and external programs and facilities rentals; 

• Assume responsibility for existing partnerships and rentals; 

• Develop sales and business plans that provide the platform for creating and/or expanding revenue opportunities; 

• Coordinate with NEC staff and faculty to bring new offerings, as well as revise/expand existing offerings, to market, including program development, pricing, advertising, marketing, and letters of agreement; 

• Respond to rental inquiries, negotiate agreements, and execute contracts on behalf of NEC; 

• Partner with NEC staff to ensure success in event services including venue management, production, audience services, instrument repair, maintenance and acquisitions, and facility scheduling; 

• Achieve annual revenue targets that are in line with NEC's overall financial performance, develop reporting mechanisms to assess and monitor progress; 

• Establish beneficial external partnerships, both new and existing, to maximize potential revenue results and successfully meet goals; 

• Understand current trends and the competitive landscape, keeping apprised of new developments in the industry; 

• Provide timely feedback to NEC's leadership on performance of the sales plan; 

• Provide the services needed at each event to ensure customer satisfaction; 

• Handle customer complaints and correspondence. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree required and advanced degree preferred 

• At least seven years of professional experience 

• Proven track record in meeting and exceeding revenue targets 

• Success in developing and launching new programs and services 

• Creative leadership in a collaborative environment 

• Experience working with communities to increase awareness of programs and services
